I've been reading threads on this site for over a year now and finally got around to registering. I have a 2002 Tacoma (4x4, TRD, extended cab, custom black wheels) that I thought I would take to my grave with me. It has really low miles the V-6 engine and manual transmission. You can't find many like it anymore. My wife and I have one child, and it was functional for him to sit in the tiny little space behind the passenger seat, but not for much longer. Looks like we have a second co-passenger on the way in a few months. I'm having serious trouble moving to a newer Double-Cab model Tacoma because they'll have to rip me from my 2002. It feel like my 1st (or 1.5) generation is built a lot better than the 2nd generation Tacomas. I guess the dealer could re-sell my truck with "fingernails from last owner still embedded in the upholstery" on the sticker. I'm not sure if that's a selling point or not...

    Hey Squirrel.
    I'm in West Chester.
Not too far from you. Is that a pic of your truck in your post?
Did you do all those mods yourself? I'm thinking if I go for a 2nd gen, I'm going to have to lift it a little to make it look right. The double cab looks nice when it's lifted, in my opinion.

Welcome aboard! I just bought my first 2nd Gen after having a 90 Hi-Lux and a 2000 Tacoma. I was very sad to give up my 2000, but am very happy with the room, the ride, the performance, and the looks of my new truck!

Thanks Rich. I might have to take you up on that.
I've been looking around for a 2nd Gen DC, but haven't found one that will let me take the leap yet. I'm also skeptical about having a bed shorter than 6 feet (my house still needs a lot of work) and don't like the look of the long-bed DC's.
Here are pics of my current Tacoma with the reason I'm looking for a DC:

    Thanks Mark.
I hope I feel the same way if I can find the right truck. Would it be bad to keep the 1st gen in the backyard until my kids are old enough to drive? Wish I could afford to do that.
