Lots of cool places near DVille. There's a handful of nice campgrounds right on Hwy 49 as you head up there, right along the river, but fairly tame, family campground types. Probably busy this time of year.

If you're willing to drive a little, and like going off road, head up to Sierra City (next town past Downieville, 15 min) and take the Sierra Buttes trail, which will lead up and over the Sierra buttes, where there is unlimited Dispersed camping. The Pacific crest trail runs through there, there's a bitchin fire lookout with killer views, and Deer Lake is a secluded lake with dispersed camping options... Or continue on the Sierra buttes trail down into Gold Lake. Or any of the more developed camping areas of lakes basin, upper and lower Sardine lake, packer lake, etc... Here's an old trip report I did on that area...

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/gold-lakes-camping-trip-5-14-16.278271/

To get up to the dispersed camping area by way of Sierra Buttes trail it'll be about an hour or so from Downieville, but you can also take the paved way (boooo) which is Hwy 49 to Gold Lake Highway, and hook a left onto Packer, Sardine or Salmon lake rd, whichever you prefer. Via the paved rd it'll only be about 30 min or so. Anyways... Hope that helps. Tons of kickass places to explore in that area, not to mention the mountain biking at Downieville!

Thanks! Yeah that sounds like a good deal with the Sierra Buttes trail. So basically just follow the trail?

What trail books do people suggest for Tahoe and surrounding areas, heading up for labor day ( I know me and a million other people) and would like to go explore one of the days. My cabin is right next to camp Richardson and have explored all that area, looking for maybe higher ground or north side.

Oh and this is my new fantasy football picture, boom!!

Thinking of fantasy football we should start a NORCAL TW league, or if there is one send me the link and take my money

    A few things
It's borderline ocd, left my house at 4:30, got to the job at 5:30, job stars at 6:30. One of my biggest pet peeves is being late.

    More or less...

    I use this book
    http://www.barnesandnoble.com/mobil...sid=Google_&sourceId=PLGoP524&k_clickid=3x524
    image.jpg

Which has turn by turn directions. But the trails in that area are pretty easy to follow. A plumas national forest map or a map of Lakes Basin Recreation area would help. Even google maps has Sierra Buttes road and Butcher Creek rds listed...

    Damn....moderator-ed!

EDIT: And I'm down for a FFL. Use like ESPN or NFL's stuff? ESPN is usually the easiest.
