Just for funsies I did a search via Cars.com app to see if any new 2015's remained within 500 miles.

Had 1 hit. This base Tacoma listed at $37,850. Thought that was bonkers. I shopped this same dealer last year in end of August when I was negotiating my 2015. At that time they had an SR5 new for $32,900. I got a better deal and my Super White color elsewhere, but this is crazy for a base Tacoma.

    it's clearly a "limited" model.

Not a base model. It would have black fender flares.

Dealers and everybody else jack up the list price to make people feel good when they negotiate. Dealer listed my 4 year old Prerunner with 87k on odo hundreds less than I paid new. Of course there is always the sucker that has to have the truck and will over pay. This is one way dealers make money.

Same here when I bought my 2009. Dealer started whining when I offered less than he paid on a 2008. I said your problem not mine and give me the new one.

My bad. I can excuse myself for being retarded...but how does a dealer call it a "base" model if it isn't?

I just thought if it's not an SR5 they call it base.

It's just a listing error by the dealership and exactly why there is fine print at the bottom of all ads that basically says the dealer isn't on the hook for any typo's, etc.

Yep, it was one of my most enjoyable buying experiences. I was having fun listening to them moaning about what they had in the truck. I really had no intention of buying the used one but thought I would make a reasonable offer. Sales guy called his manager over and they were both whining. I was working 3 dealers but decided to visit the closest one. In the middle of working the deal on the 2009 I got a call from another dealer and they asked how much it take to get me out of the one I was in and I said $500. I told the one I was at about the conversation and said guess what the price just dropped.

Dealers and brokers are notorious for making mistakes in their ads. These are typically not details people. They want you to see a picture and a price. If you ever see details that look weird on a cars.com ad or whatever, assume it could be BS.
