Looks nice! I relocated my 7-pin yesterday also. After grinding through the third or fourth desert washout I found it dangling by the wires so now it's duct taped to the hitch to keep it from swinging to and fro in the breeze. Guess I need to do a permanent relo now.

Haha nice! I think you should just write a DIY on your duck tape relocate! Haha sorry about that happening, but looking at the brighter side of things, since it's already removed for you it shouldn't be too hard to relocate it.

Yep, the job's already halfway done! Moving it used to be a good idea--now it's a requirement.

Haha yeah I'd say so! Where you thinking about relocating it to? When I do mine im planning on setting it either behind the plate like the OP, or I'm going to drill it into the bumper just to the left of the plate. Just curious..

Btw, duck tape looks pretty bitchen if you ask me!

I'll most likely put it next to the plate via a new hole. I've seen a few other mods on here (same location, but facing down / using lic plate light hole), but I think I like that idea the best.

Yeah I'm leaning more towards that one as well. Just bc if I did it behind my plate I would have to deal with the fuzz out here in California.. When you relocate put up some pics, I'd like to see!

Looks good. I put my 7+4 pin plug behind the plate and hinged it on the top, that way there's no spring needed. If I'm parked or something because the plate flips up it's still perfectly visible when hooked up to the trailer. When unhooked it looks completely stock. My Ride-Rite airbag valves fit on either side behind the plate too.

There's a ton of room behind the bumper in that location. Another side benefit with the plug behind the plate is at night the license plate lights do a real nice job of illuminating the plug so you don't have to fumble around in the dark trying to find the hole. <insert dirty joke here> Also it's shielded from the tire spray and road grime so it stays nice and clean and dry.

Thanks fellas!! I guess since people are still looking at this, i need to update it.

As a quick update, I removed the springs from the plate bracket (felt it was putting too much pressure on the plug and raking my knuckles across the screws that mount the plate one too many times!) and am using magnets to hold the plate in the normal position and it is working perfectly.

I will post up some pics soon.

Thanks to the OP for this write-up. For the past couple days I've been trying to decide on a way to wire up some auxiliary reverse lights with the least impact to the factory wiring. Of the three choices (splice into reverse tail lamp wiring, splice into the tow wire harness, or rig something at the back of the 7-pin tow connector) this seems like the way to go although it will be more time consuming compared to the other two methods. I was hoping for screw terminals instead of solder terminals at the back of the 7-pin connector but at least I know to expect. Looks like I have a project to work on this weekend.
