I have a 2004 Double Cab with about 165K miles. When I bought it 5 years ago or so one of the dash lights in the 0-20 mph area of the dash was out.

A couple days ago the entire right side of the dash went out. The right turn signal still works and the low fuel gauge too.

    Questions:

    1. Is this just some burned out lights or a bigger problem?
    2. How hard is it to pull apart the dash and change out the lights?

    Any help would be great

Sounds like just a couple of bulbs died. Gaining access isn't bad - time just a bit time consuming. If I can do it, anyone can. I used this as a guide (http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old/index.php?article=77). Lots of additional info here if needed: https://www.tacomaworld.com/search/2489681/?q=dashboard+LED&t=post&o=date&c[node]=4

I suggest if you are going with LED, do it now - beats pulling it apart later. Also invest in good quality LEDs, the ones I ordered were OK but one of my climate control LEDs is flickering. Sucks.

Thanks for the help. If I'm pulling the dash I might as well change to LED. I'm not seeing in the manual how many bulbs I will need total. The link just says 3 for the A/C and radio area. How many will i need for the instrument panel?

Any recommendations on the characteristics of the LEDs?.........Lm, brightness, etc.

Just slap the top of dash. Usually come back on.

See my post here on what I used - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/dash-removal.38843/#post-12968194

While the instrument clusters are working fine and are nice and bright, the neo wedge T4s for the climate control are poop. They dont fit perfectly and I believe that is what is causing the intermittent contact issue. Sucks.

So for the instruments I believe it is 4 bulbs and the climate controls are 3.

This is what I used as a guide. Easy job.

4 for the speedo/tach If they're all out. ...they're cheap bulbs. If you're in there replace them all no matter what. If you want the original dash color pull the "condoms" off the old bulbs. I wore nitrile gloves to do this and it just took a little.... finesse.
