Seriously, if I had a brand new truck and this happened (or brand new wheels) that'd be one thing, but to expect hundreds of dollars worth of discount or reimbursement for a few scratches on truck wheels that have already seen their fair share of daily driving use? C'mon.....

I'm not saying I wouldn't bring it up (actually, I probably wouldn't but that's because my wheels are scratched to hell from 4x4'ing already and I probably wouldn't notice a few shop scratches anyhow)...but I'd only bring it up to make the owner aware that his guys need to be more careful. I wouldn't go demanding any kind of big discount for a few scratches.

Did I say I had a legal case? Did I say I would take legal action?
    No I didn't.

I also spoke to the lack of value is dinged up OEM wheels. But thanks for the pointless comment.

I think you actually do have a legal case, but it'd probably be petty to escalate it to that level due to the fact that they are used so how much value was really lost - $100? $200??... They were over $1000 brand new, so I'm sure the used value is around half that. So a few extra scratches isn't going to affect the value of the used wheels that much. Hence why I wasn't heartbroken by seeing the scratches - but still wanted to say something because it's not right to scratch a guys wheels, lol.

I wouldn't dream about asking for new wheels for compensation for this. If they were new... definitely.

By the way - these aren't OEM wheels. These are the wheels when they were brand new. I don't have pics of the current wheel condition... upload_2016-8-19_7-16-15.jpg

This - and there is some value loss as a result of the scratch.... I know without pictures you guys have no idea of how 'bad' my wheels were before the scratches, and when I say they were 'used' for 70000 miles - theyre all highway... so any scratches/chips were a result of normal driving - these weren't off-roaded. With a quick wash/polish, they'd look brand new from 5' away. Up close you start to notice the blemished I mentioned... however you can see the scratches from 5' away. So there's no doubt the scratches diminished the value to some extent, which means it's not unreasonable to get some sort of compensation.

    JROD4928,
I thought you handled it pretty good. I would gone to the boss whether it was a brand new wheel or one that just got done running the Rubicon blindfolded. It's not the scratch that bothers me. It's the fact all were scratched and nothing was mentioned. Everyone makes mistakes and if that installer went to the boss and said what he did. Then passed that information to you, you would probably said, eh it's ok....just polish them up, not charge me for install, and we'll call it even. My truck has many scratches, dings, and dents on it. I put them there and know every one. If someone were to scratch it, to the normal person it is just another scratch. To me, I would know someone did it.

Good points and thanks. I'm certain the shop owner that I spoke to didn't know about the scratches. If he'd known, he would have told me when I came in. Kinda sucks that one of his employees allowed this to happen and then didn't tell anyone afterwards... I like the shop, but that kind of stuff is what knocks your rep down. With that said - I'm still going to take my vehicles there, lol.

Not if it was scratched and chipped already as he said his wheels were.

With 70K miles on those rims, you'd be hard pressed to prove that they actually caused the damage. (Not that I dont believe you, but thats almost 5 to 6 years worth of daily driving)

Id be willing to guess that if you took your concerns to the service manger....they are going to offer you a few free oil changes or the likes.

They've already admitted guilt as I said earlier. Especially considering I'm a returning customer to his shop, we have a good working relationship. He'd be an asshole to accuse me of fraud. Not to mention itd be a little odd in everyday driving to get perfectly concentric circular scratches around all 4 wheels, exactly the same distance from the edge of the rim.

    No mods whatsoever!
Seems like a lot of drama since the OP doesn't care about the scratches. No pics posted. Why bother? Moving along.
