I have a strange noise/clunk when going over bumps with my Toytec Boss kit. I went under the truck to see if anything was loose and to tighten things up. One thing that seemed loose was the very top nut on the coilover, not the ones that hold it to the shock tower. What does tightening/loosening that nut do? And, should it be tight?

It should be tightened up snug.

When i try to tighten it it just seems to rotate the rod that plunges into the shock itself.. Sorry, new at this so no idea what its called. Do i need to put another wrench on the rod part above the nut and tighten down the nut? or just tighten the nut like i have already done?

    all tore up already
the top nut holds the strut shaft to top mount. the 3 smaller outside ones hold the assy in place

there should be a spot flattened on the shaft ment to grab with a set of vice grips so the shaft cant rotate while tightening the nut with a box end wrench.

Not toytec, just a generic assy off the shelf but note top part has spot flattened you can grab to hold20160820_141333.jpg

dont remember the torque spec, dont go too crazy. it shouldnt loosen once tightened, theres all the force of the spring holding it tight so it really shouldnt come loose.
