Anyone know any trails for a stock 2wd truck in moab? I might be going there for the weekend and want to experiment on some trails. Thanks

i just did Fins n Things in a bone stock DCLB 4x4 3 days ago, pick your lines and air down a bit and you should be fine, just have to take a few of the bypasses in 2wd

I kept up with the 4x4s on some pretty technical patches pretty well in my PreRunner (TRD Off Road though, and I needed the locker a couple times), but anything with bigger ledges is a no-go without power up front. I did rub a slider and ding my 7-pin bracket somewhere with a 2 inch lift and 32" tires, though, so YMMV. These trucks do seem pretty capable of more than most folks would believe, but some of that depends on what you're willing to risk in the process.

If you're bone stock with an open diff, it'll depend a lot on your skill/experience level and ability to pick lines. This time of year you might not want to get too aggressive if you're going out alone in the desert; there was a decent amount of traffic last week, but it'd be dangerous to count on that to save your life if you did get stuck. Gemini Bridges and Bull Canyon should be within the capability of the truck (anything that's a 3 on traildamage.com should be possible, some 4s might push your limits a bit) I wouldn't reccomend trying a 5 alone, you might be able to do it but without another vehicle to help with recovery or possibly pull you out it's just too dangerous to risk getting stuck in the desert this time of year.

White Rim trail in Canyonlands NP should definitely be doable (although I'm not sure that isn't just a dirt road for the most part), and everyone said Onion Creek is pretty mild as well.

I did all of Gemini trail while staying in 2wd. Pretty 2wd friendly trail.

I just got back from there with my stock suspension/tire '16 taco. Gemini bridges, fins 'n things, Geyser pass are definitely doable in 2wd.

Gemini Bridges Road, Shafer Switchbacks, Potash Road, Geyser Pass...to name a few.

Personally, I would not attempt White Rim with a 2WD....

Gonna take my tundra on this trip. For the most part we'll be doing more sight seeing this time around.

What's tough about White Rim for a 2WD? Just curious since my uncle recommended that one to me knowing I was taking a 2WD (although I'm lifted a bit with 32" tires, a rear locker and a winch) to Moab for a week.

I'm speculating this is why.

YMMV...obviously, and traveling solo would also add to the "4WD Recommended" moniker.

I didn't end up doing White Rim since I didn't want to move my camp site and commit two days of the five I had to covering it (the only thing everyone agreed on was to not do the whole 100 miles of it in one day), so I haven't seen the terrain. I do know that a lot of trails which are labeled as "4x4" really only require decent ground clearance and wheel travel, which may have caused some confusion for a couple in a Subaru who were behind our trail group on willow springs trail on the way to the tower bridge trail (pretty sure they turned back when it started to get a bit rocky).

Would a stock prerunner (or 2wd 3rg gen, since toyota apparently killed the 5-lug after 2015) not be high enough clearance? I'm only at about 12" clearance instead of the stock height clearance of about 9.5"

IMHO...ground clearance is not the issue. On GC alone...yes, White Rim is "do-able" with a properly* equipped 2WD.

The luxury of the extra two drive wheels and using the transfer case before a situation develops to where you "need" the 4WD...is how I like to roll.

Bottom line (and in the forum world of keyboard opinions, this is what really matters...) is you could...you could...but why would you? :)

*traction control device (locker), recovery equipment (winch), a well honed sense of...well, common sense
