I recently picked up a 2004 Double Cab mostly so I can make occasional trips to Lowe's and Interstate Plastics. Plus I really like the looks. I don't do any off-roading so the 4WD is a bit superfluous for me, but I really liked this one when it popped up on Craigslist, so 4WD it is. This won't be much like a standard build, but I plan to do a few mods so I thought I'd start a thread. Since I have lots of other projects going at any one time this one may go for long stretches in between updates.

One of the other reason's that I bought the Taco is because I realized my astromech wasn't going to fit in my Lotus. Here's how he looks at the moment (You can see why I have to share project time):

And here's the moment I realized I'd need something bigger:

Once R2 is build and operational, the goal is to wire him into the Taco's battery while he's being transported so we can do something like this:

I plan to put a camera in his head that can recognize color blobs, so that I can program him to "watch" and "talk to" cars of a certain color as they drive by.

One of the other mods I am thinking of is removing the map lights from the ceiling and 3D printing a switch panel for my bed lights and under-hood light. This panel will also have a small LCD screen that will serve as the interface for F.R.I.D.A.Y., the natural language interface I would like to install.

What can I say? I like gadgets.

For now I still need to replace the worn out shocks, and after reading the forums for the past 3 days straight I think I'll level it while I'm at it with some Bilstein 5100's. I got really lucky and one of the guys 2 cubicles over from me maintained a fleet of Toyotas for a few years and drives a Taco with over 430k miles, so between him and the forums, I think I can do the swap myself (I'm only mildly handy with anything over an M3 screw). I am however taking it in this week to have the timing belt changed out because I hear it's best to have air tools and specialized jigs to do that.

Oh, and I already fixed the rear-end clunk by a) searching the forums and b) greasing the slip yoke.
