I love my mountain bike but I blew out the rear shock and front disc rotors and calipers are shot. Been riding my hybrid/fitness bike on the North Branch Trail for several weeks now. There are several "roadies" there between 6am and 7am on Saturdays in the parking lot at Devon and Milwaukee.

Maybe one day during the fall if there is enough interest we can get a group together for some single track or light riding.

Anyone near or in Rockford IL ever replaced UCA's on a 2nd gen? I have a couple shot upper ball joints and was just going to replace the entire UCA instead, but I've never done anything that major. I've done brakes and shocks and whatnot, but this seems a little more of a big deal. Was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me. I have a 2.5 car garage with an air compressor, so I have the tools and whatnot.

Wouldn't be easier and cheaper to just chang the ball joints?

Since I've never done either, I don't know. Seemed to me like replacing the UCA's with the ball joints in them would be easier, since I can do that without the special ball joint press tool. But again, I've never done either.

The ball joint press tool is like 12bucks if you buy it from autozone.

The ball joint is only held in by a snap ring, remove the cotter pin, loosen the castle nut and hit the steering knuckle on side where the ball joint goes thru, the tapered end inside the knuckle should come loose, remove nut, then you should be able to see the snap ring, remove that and press the old out, press new in and put everything back together, easy peasy.
As for the press you should be able to rent from autozone or buy one from them or harbor freight, they come with different sized sleeves to push on the ball joint.

Well, I found a guy selling his 2015 UCA's for 10 bucks more per side then just the ball joints, so i'm just gonna buy those and replace the entire control arm, if my ball joints really are bad. Will know tomorrow night.
