Burn clutch smell is just like burned brakes smell you get on an 18 wheeler when their brakes lock on up on the hwy.
So I'm thinking it was bearing smell from the rig he was towing.
    OP should be ok

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

My clutch in my 2016 smells like rotten garbage when it gets hot. I've only done it once or twice, and it's very distinct and bad.

It usually happens when the brakes are fighting the clutch, in my experience. If you're trying to pull something heavy, disable traction control. Brakes vs clutch = death stench.

Did it smell kinda like rotten eggs? It could have been the cat heating up if you were really working it.

For future reference, when you're going to tow something very heavy like that, always use 4Lo. The lower gearing will give you a lot more torque with less strain on the drivetrain.
