I've had great success baking with my old SVEA 123. I made a spacer out of a piece of stainless exhaust pipe that keeps direct flame off the pot. The lid is a part from a ceiling fan. It's that little cap you use if you don't use the light fixture part. A screw acts as a removable handle for the lid.

It all fits in the body while adding no bulk and only minimal weight. The key is to use a low low flame. I like anything that is "just add water" for simplicity. I've tried biscuits and cornbread so far. Both cook in about 10 minutes and make a hearty one person serving! Both are great with syrup!

I love this little stove! I recently bought a Optimus Polaris. While it puts out a lot more heat it's not nearly as cool and charming. Not as simple either.

Shameless plug for my back up/high altitude stove, Radius #42.

I guess it qualifies as low buck. It was $6.98 new in 1959 at a dollar off sale. First piece of gear I ever bought.
No moving parts, no pump, just the flame control needle valve. Very similar to the Seva.

You build the initial pressure it by dribbling gas on the top of the tank then lighting it on fire. So much fun to just play with.
The key for the flame control stem is also a wrench for complete take down, still have the original instructions.

Nice stove! $58 in modern money, still fairly low-buck.

This thing is awesome! I love the antique stoves. The simplicity of the SVEA 123 and clones is truly remarkable. There's like 2 seals on the whole thing, the needle valve and on the filler cap. And it works without any pumps or gadgets.

    Extend your tube.

This stove was connected to the propane cylinder with a fixed rigid tube. By cutting the tube and slipping several feet of vinyl tubing on each end the cylinder can sit out of the way or even on the ground. In cold weather I have sat the cylinder in a pot of water to keep it (the cyl) from freezing up.
The regulated pressure is only a few psi and no clamps were needed.

Another great idea! I have a similar stove with a short rubber hose, but the hose is so stiff it constantly wants to knock the bottle over!

Those were the days before instant on and off camp stoves. I use an eye dropper to measure a couple of milliliters of fuel - when priming my SVEA 123r. It works great.

Wood Cutting Blade For The Hacksaw

Cut from a wood cutting bandsaw blade, stored in the spare blade compartment. It will not take the place of a Sven Saw but better than no saw at all and cheap.

Just a little something to cut weight and space. I do a lot of backpacking too. It's a bit OCD but I've found it helpful...

Various colored straws. Cut, melt one end, add what you need, melt the other end. Super easy!!

    Sunday submission, a day late.

Lots of talk lately on the Overland Expedition thread on shower/washdown systems.
Several careers ago I was a Power Boat Tech and installed more washdown systems than I care to remember. These days I have moved more towards simple. I have been happy with a "Solar Shower" and also made up this fellow.
Years ago I made one up using a marine "PAL" pump http://www.westmarine.com/buy/jabsco--little-pal-pump-kit--109850 . PAL=pumps all liquids, they are very high quality items and costly today, like around $50. This Horror Fright clone at around $10 works fine for water. It pumps on the push stroke so I added the return spring on the shaft. This way it can be tied, lashed, hung, strung, strapped or taped in many positions. At ground level it can be pumped with a foot. Pumping by hand, foot, elbow or shoulder does require the ability to walk and chew gum at the same time;). The original PAL pump uses the pull stroke so it's not suited for foot operation.
    WASHDN_zpsjq2e2hbf_e1c8c86e109871024179e333f35cb8f6ce86284d.jpg

Another option is an outboard motor fuel line/primer bulb. This would be best for foot operation. Price is all over the map for these ($10-$50+) and the bulb can be had separately.
