    Hey All -

Just picked up a new to me '98 Tacoma SR5, V6 3.4, automatic, 242,000 miles. No maintenance history. Working on getting it back on the road.

It started leaking some coolant yesterday after a short test drive. I am guessing that it is the water pump at this point but would like some confirmation before I start ordering parts.

Attached is a picture showing the coolant pooling near where the dipstick goes in to the oil pan. This is looking down from top of the engine bay. It seems to be trickling down from the water pump / thermostat area.

Any confirmation before I order parts (water pump and timing belt kit) would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Mike

Based on the pic, you are spot on. Make sure you order a new t-belt, t-Stat, and t-Stat gasket along with water pump. A lot of times the gasket is separate. T-stat has to be removed anyways when replacing the wp. On some models, there will be a cooler hose attached to the wp housing for the oil cooler. Can't tell by pic. Make sure that hose is ok. And replace the hose clamps. Maybe the think about replacing the hose with the miles you have on it. Good luck.

Entire oem kits (timing belt/water pump) can be had on eBay from aircabinman if u didn't know already. There's different kits he sells as well depending on how much you want/need. With the exception of hoses...
What every here gets including me. Highly recommended.

Thanks, all! I'll go ahead and order a timing belt / water pump kit. Aircabinman did come up in my searching yesterday so will look at using him.

@marinetaco Thanks for the tip on the extra line. I did see that and I am not sure if I have it or not. Will have to look again this evening before making my order.
