Hey TW! I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried out a truck bed tent and could offer any advice. I'm trying to get my wife into camping, however she's not comfortable sleeping on the ground here in Florida (snakes, gators, spiders, etc.). I would love to get a CVT or something a little more awesome than a truck bed tent, however I want to test the waters with something a bit less expensive for now, then upgrade down the road. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Sooooo comfy. And you're safe from 99% of ground dwelling creepy crawlies. What more do you need?!?

    I did this once.
Now, I'm waiting on the rack for my rtt.

Don't forget, you'll have to unload everything from the truck bed to install the tent...

I was in the same boat, I wanted a RTT, but haven't camped enough to justify it just yet. I went with the Napier, and I like it a lot. With a long bed, we put an "airbedz mattress" in the back and sleep really comfortably (I have some back and neck problems which kept me from camping for years). My wife loves the thing, and is overjoyed that I am able to camp again.

If you are going for quick weekend trips, or will stay at the same campsite for a few days, it does the job for a great price. If you are constantly getting out, and/or are going on road trips where you are constantly breaking down and setting up camp, the RTT will become worth it in a hurry....

Thats a great point! I don't usually bring a whole lot, but it's a huge consideration. Especially if arriving late or under other conditions that aren't optimal for emptying out the bed.... When you did use it, did you find it to be a pretty good alternative to ground camping, despite having to empty things out?

That is the goal! I would love to get a RTT as soon as I get my wife on board. We're both teachers so dropping $1500+ for a tent is a big purchase to us so I just gotta make sure before pulling the trigger. Your set up looks awesome! How waterproof is the soft topper? We live in Florida and it rains all summer long!

Hammocks are awesome! Great suggestion! I used to use these all the time when we lived up in Michigan and would go backpacking. We considered hammocks that have the screen on top (Florida bugs are killers!), but the only issue we're having is that we have a dachshund that would be making the trips with us and we're not sure how he would do in a hammock all night. Only one way to find out I guess! Nice rain shelter set up! Thank you for the suggestion. Definitely still on the table.

Just ordered this from Amazon for $159. Taking it camping in October. Very spacious, but an inflatable bed or something soft to lay down inside is necessary. Easy to set up with two people. These images show the rain cover that goes over the windows.
