Thanks for all the info guys but I ended up picking up a 2nd gen in amazing shape for a steal. 2006 TRD 6 speed manual 4x4 and with 140k on it and I paid less than 10k. Guy just was in a bad position and needed the cash I jumped on the deal.

I dreamed of a 1st gen but every one I looked at was a POS and the ones that weren't were going for over 12k even with over 200k miles on them! So all that together put my into the 2nd gen.

Is the coating like the rubberized undercoat they sell in stores? My truck isnt too bad but do you think it could prevent any further deterioration if i applied some to my frame?

I would get some fluid film for your frame or maybe look into the eastwoods products to help prevent any more rust....

I've heard nothing but good stuff about Fluid Film, will be using it on my new frame when installed. They sell it on Amazon and if you do decide to get it there is an attachment that you can get with it so you can coat the inside of the frame where it fully boxed.

Nope not rubberized. That type of stuff dosent really do a very good job, the rubber stuff that is... it can work if you do an ultimate perfection of a job and coat it perfectly. But its just a barrier to the elements, so when it gets ripped or damaged somehow its then working against you by keeping the water/salt protected from being washed away abd it just sets under your coating eating away at your frame at an accelerated rate cause its trapped under the rubber coating! The other products like fluid film repel and protect with no worries of anything getting trapped under it. Fluid film is very popular among users here in the fourms. There are a couole other products out there too that you can use, just do a search for rust preventer or something of that nature. You'll find lots of good stuff to use!

    Too few to list.
I'm not sure if it was rubberized at one point but mine looked kinda crusty since I'm guessing it was put on a long time ago. If not put on correctly, it can trap moisture in and make your frame rust even faster.

Oh wow, thanks! That is good to know, considering I'm the type who would just spray it on the metal looking parts (pretty much everything down there) - not even knowing there is an incorrect way to do it.
    Thanks again!
