I have been doing research on this site, as well as others, and I can't quite find the answer I am looking for. I am looking for people's opinion on their dual exhaust system, more specifically as it relates to performance and added MPG efficiency. I currently have a 2013 TRD Sport, lifted with big off-road tires and my MPG's are suffering. I get about 15-16mpg in the city, and that is driving like a grandma.

I used to have a 2008 TRD Off-Road which I added the TRD Cat Back and TRD Cold Air Intake. The sound was awesome, and the added performance was ok at best, but the added MPG's was negligible. I was happy at the time because I sounded like a boss everywhere I went, but now that I have a family I need to be more careful with my investments - in other words I can't justify a new system just to sound cool anymore.

I am considering a dual exhaust system, and although they all claim efficiency and power gains I feel like they are marketing ploys. I want to hear about people's actual experience, and what system did you buy, also how did it sound (before I put the CAI in my 2008 the Cat back sound very raspy, way better after the CAI). I am only looking to get an exhaust, not the CAI.

I'll be the first to say it......supercharger :gossip:

I really don't know much about dual exhaust, especially on our trucks. But the fact remains that if you're modifying your system to allow air to flow through more freely, it stands to reason that you'd benefit most by also forcing more air in (forced induction).

They are expensive though so of course it's not for everyone, just modifying the exhaust alone will net you some gains. As for dual exhaust on our Tacomas, I'm really not sure. Have you looked into performance headers like Doug Thorleys? Those are popular for the Tacoma and a lot of members that have them say they see noticeable performance improvements.

As an "investment", I gotta think no... It will be a LOT of miles before any slight MPG gain outweighs whatever it costs to convert to a true, efficient dual exhaust set up.

For what it's worth I get about 16-17 mpg city, too, and that's driving like a sane, responsible citizen. So what you're getting with a lift and off-road tires is actually quite reasonable.

I get a little better mileage out of it. But being in Cali I can not do headers or anything that is not CARB compliant. Must say I do love the sound!! I had it cut at the cats and pipes ran all the way back.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
You will likely hurt your low-end torque as scavenging will be changed and your most efficient RPM ratio will move higher on the tach. You can offset some of it by moving to 2.25" pipe rather than 2.5" pipe which will help push your low end up but, of course, sacrifice some high-end range.

I'd say it's worth a lot less than people make it out to. I'm trying to consider a way to do bed-side exist dual exhaust AFTER the muffler... Single in dual out.

Don't expect any mpg improvements with intake or exhaust. Save your money for gas.

How close are the tips to the mud flaps?
I'm looking into the rokbloks mud flaps which are a bit more flexible than the stockers.

These are videos of mine. The videos are mostly for the sound of them and I don't mention any performance gains at all. But I have ran a dyno on mine before and after. I added around 15 hp and 7 lb/ft. I get about 2-3 better mpg than I did, I was at around 19-20 and am now 22-23. They're all not much improvements, but hey, it's still something. The setup is in the description

15% increase in fuel economy for dual exhaust??? No way in hell,.... its a placebo dude.

Did 150 mile testing multiple times both with my sick exhaust and with the duals. Tried to wait till conditions were as close to the first test as possible. All we're woth cruise control on relitively flat ground the entire way. And the tips are 5". Helps the tone to not be so high pitches

For real. It will take so long to recoup your money it will be hardly worth it. Invest in spark plugs, air cleaner, fuel cleaner, etc. and maybe you can get back to those factory mpgs.
