@tachommie how is the space above, below and behind the factory radio in the dash? Is there space in there for a compact class D like a Fosgate BRT amp?

I know it's been done. There's a guy selling one right now in the for sale section. I cut a piece of mdf to fit behind the drivers' side rear and covered it. Mounted an amp and LOC on the board and fit a sub in the other side. Replaced speakers, wired it up and good to go.

Not really, it's pretty tight. I would worry about air flow if you did manage to cram something in there.

I guess I'd have to do a seat bracket or something if I went that route.

I haven't really explored behind the glove box or drivers side. I know there are supposed to be knee airbags but there may be something behind high up in the dash on the drivers side that may work. that's usually where I mount x'-overs.

No space behind the glove box, the cabin air filter assembly resides there and no space below thanks to the supplemental airbags. Not sure about the driver side lower dash or behind the cubby in the center console.

just curious - did you lose the info that the entune unit sends to the small center screen like XM station, etc.?

I didn't even think to check that. I may reinstall the Kenwood unit this weekend to see. I'll post back what I find. At the time I was more interested in if I could still control the trucks vital function on the aftermarket unit.

I would say there is a good chance that if you have a head unit attached to that Maestro that supports full data, the cluster screen will still work. It would suck if it doesn't, I actually like that info on that screen.

Go with the Pioneer Avic NEX series headunits. The only drawback about them is that they don't have a physical volume knob, short of that they are feature rich and have SO much more to offer over the garbage Toyota JBL/ Nav stereos which are clearly constructed like junk because they keep rebooting at random and nobody could ever predict when or why it happens.

    Resurrecting a thread...

Never heard of maestro before... so they work and allow the head unit to communicate and still be able to change the vehicle settings? What model is the one you tested? I can't read it...

    http://maestro.idatalink.com/

This is the current website. You can configure what radio you have and what exactly works with it. It should configure everything down to the satellite connection. For my stereo I use the maestro RR and T02 wire harness connections with the SAT accessories.

Yes it will allow you to keep all of the vehicle configurable functions. And it also keeps the back up camera functionality. I've been using the Kenwood unit now for about two months and haven't had a problem with it. In fact when I take the truck into the dealer I swap the stock radio back. It takes about 10 minutes to put the stock jbl unit back in and about 10 minutes to put the aftermarket radio back in once all the connections are in place. There's no permit modification to the truck everything is plug-and-play

I put the Maestro RR box under the stereo. there is plenty of space for it. I also have the external Sirius XM box there as well. everything fits well.

The one in the picture is a Kenwood DNX9902s, I'm using that one until after CES in January. I am waiting to see if Pioneer announces a new Avic model. hopefully they will have a avic-8300NEX unit coming out. if not I'll be getting the Avic-8200NEX. The Kenwood is nice but it doesn't have navigation. it does have apple CarPlay and android auto. Having the apple CarPlay over the Entune system makes the difference to me.

I plan to upgrade my head unit soon. Fucking hate entune so much! Plan on putting a Pioneer AVIC 7200NEX In‑dash GPS ‑ 7" Touch Display

Guy at the stereo place told me all my controls will work. Plus I want carplay! Having it done next week, will keep yall posted.
