cheapo tonneau cover DIY

    For my last road trip I wanted a tonneau cover. These things are pricey. Not willing to spent that much money, I opted to build my own.
    I needed it quickly so I decided to build a simple cover with wood.

    Here my inggredients:

    1x sheet of plywood 4x8x0.310 (to keep the weight down)
    4x 2x4 frame
    4x 2x3 cross member
    2x garage door hinges​

    All together less than $50. The build took roughly ~10hours plus the time for the glue to cure overnite.

    The cover is strong enough to top load some of my gear for the next adventure.

    Next day I changed the design and screwed another set of 2x3, to gain some more desired load height.

    we used do this back in the 80's during the mini truck phase- not as robust as yours but we covered ours in black vynl when done. There are a few paint options that you could go with today that you coat that with too.
