DIY: Differential Breather Extension

I'm sorry that I'm confused, but can someone help me clarify? I'm about to put in an order for a union part #90404-51026 and I bought 1/4 vaccum line with a in-line fuel filter. Is this the correct set up (the same as the original post that was created with the fuel filter). Would this be a free flowing breather. I'm sorry, just confused.

 

Yes, it's free-flowing. The union screws into the place where the current breather is. It's 100% open and is threaded on one end to screw into the differential and is smooth on the other end for the 1/4" hose to fit onto (it needs to be clamped). Run the hose to the gas tank and attach the in-line fuel filter.

When I read "check valve cap" that is a red flag! We want a free flowing vent so the vacuum that may be created is broken by air flowing to the differential.

Well, maybe they are using the correct end and only saying check valve? But, you can get the parts real cheap at the dealer. See my mod sig link.

 

That's my issue. Nearest dealer is two hours away. Probably just order from camelback or something though

 

Parts can be UPS'd or mailed to you... if not the local dealer, then ones that do.

Looks expensive. Heres a brass fitting from Amazon which is only $4. The hose should be about $10 from any auto parts store.

that brass connector will not fit the treads on the diff if thats what you are planning on... needs to be an oddball BSPT size. hence the union.

Was looking in to doing this, but getting confused when piecing this together.. I keep seeing different parts etc..

I don't see any breather in that second link? Just two insert (barbed) adapters and tube with clamps.

It really isn't complicated, the front breather and union adapter can be ordered at Toyota parts, the tube and clamps at an automotive or hardware store... and some cinch ties.

 

Yeah if that is all I need then I should be able to handle it. I thought there was more to it.

 

This is such a messy thread for a sticky on what is repeatedly referred to as an "easy" mod.

Here is my question after reading this thread which should hopefully clear things up for people in the future as well:

The first post mentions 1 "union" (Toyota part# 9040451026) and 1 small in-line fuel filter. If I use both those parts, I take it I am good and have a 2 way extended breather?

Or, do I have to order the 2 way breather from the front differential (#
