    In one of the comments a guy is complaining about the transmission in his Colorado...almost same issue we see with the new 6 speed in the Tacoma. The funny thing is he traded the Colorado in for a tacoma but doesn't say what year.

    I think it's more likely the shaft broke from overtorquing the center shaft nut. According to the OP in the Reddit thread, a shop did the install, which means they likely tightened the nut with an air impact gun. A DIYer with hand tools would typically need a 6mm wrench or allen key to hold the shaft while tightening the nut with another small wrench, so overtorquing would be less likely.
