I shoot at a fish & game club that I belong to and they have a dirt pile as a backstop. Last time I went plinking with my 22, I noticed ricocheting and (obviously) stopped. I was about 50 yards out. So what are you guys that shoot on "raw" land using for backstops? I though about making a stop out of stacked 4x4 wood posts with a downward angle of 30 degrees and then attaching my target holder to the front of that.

sand works good. I have a 400yd target set up, but the nice part is I have a hillside as a backstop.

I've always just used the natural slope of the land and go down into the creek bottom where I'm surrounded by the rise of the land and heavy timber

I've YouTube'd a few designs. Because there's only a few of us, it may be on mi nickel so I don't want to get in the poor house over it - just to be safe.
