Was thinking of picking up the game. Anyone play it? I get it that it's not a MP or Shoot em' style game but more of an exploring game. Was wondering if it would get boring or if each new planet keeps you motivated.

What's the point of a giant open world if you can't interact with other people?

I like the whole "it is somewhat of a multiplayer....but...you'll never find another player...ever."

Walk aimlessly in a universe of shit I probably wont understand? Nah...I have TW for that.

some of this, a little of that
Bought it, played over a weekend and returned to Amazon on Monday. It is supposedly a huge universe although all players start off in the same star system. I know 4 others who bought it and all returned it as there is really nothing to do after the first couple of hours. It is so repetitive I was falling asleep while playing it.

Overwatch fills my void right now. Being older and having a wife and kids. I seldom get a decent amount of sit down time to play. Overwatch matches go so quick I can get a game or two in between family debacles.

I got it. Played for about 25 hours. Completed the two main quest lines which have very bland endings. They claim unlimited variety but it's really all very similar... the part that kept me playing as long as I did was farming money to buy really expensive badass ships (15mil+) and then I would clear out all the upgrades and start building the perfect ship. Only thing is there isn't much to do with said ship... you can get into space battles and loot huge cargo ships but that's about it. It all gets very repetitive quick and then you are left with nothing to do. I did enjoy it and don't regret buying it but if I were you I'd wait for it to go on sale. Will probably be $30 soon.

Overwatch is excellent. Is my go to right now. Season 2 about to start, tons of updates coming... new map, new skins, balance changes, total rework to competitive play and more. I mostly play Junkrat D.Va and Zenyatta

Nice, thanks for the replies. Will hold off for now. Sounds like something that will get boring after a couple days of solid gameplay.

It's a good game to just chill with, mainly exploring and you have the option to completely ignore the "mission" and just wander as much as you want. A lot of it depends on what kind of game you're looking for. If you want something like HALO, Titanfall, or COD it's probably not for you. If you want something like fallout but without the story or missions, it's maybe worth a look.

I like it, there's a lot of guys out there who don't; but if I was the typical gamer, there'd be virtually no racing games ever made after Pole Position.

Apparently, after the developer said that there's no real chance of two players running into each other, it happened on the first day where two players ended up in the same place at the same time, but there's no way to interact directly and you can't even actually see another player if it happens. The developers apparently considered the release to be a quasi-beta, and claim to have intentions of expanding the gameplay through patches and/or DLC going forward, but who really knows what'll come of it.

Just thinking about the complexity of really making a game that size into a functioning MMO, it's amazing that anyone ever thought such a thing could be possible without a massive subscription bill as part of the deal, though.

Game was just another major let down. Consumers need to stop jumping on every hype train out there.

Little late to the party. I was one of those that jumped on the hype train I'll admit. I watched this game being developed for a few years. It looked promising and I bought it. For the first day or so it was pretty interesting but it got old really quick so I returned it for a full refund like many others. That being said, a new update has come out that fixes many problems with the game and adds many new features that are getting good reviews. The problem is... it may be too late for most people and for that I completely understand. If they would have released the game in it's "current" state I think many people would have felt they weren't screwed over by a unfinished game. I'll give a very small (note... I said very small) amount of credit to Hello Games for sticking with the game and continuing to update the game and try to make it better rather than take the money and run. That in no way excuses them for what they did with the release but they are trying to make it better. You can pick the game up for little of nothing right now so if you want to take advantage of the new features then now is the time. I "might" give it one more shot.

That's part of the problem... It's not remotely considered a MMO. Elder Scrolls Online is a free MMO for PC's and Consoles that is free and actually works for Consoles very well. Sure you "can" subscribe to it but you get no game breaking items for doing so.

WoW for example charges $15 per month and I payed for many years to play that game. For $15 a month (or about the price of going out to eat once) I got hours upon hours worth of enjoyment out of that game so it was worth it.

No Man's Sky provided none of that at launch. Sure... it's kind of fun just flying around but that got old really fast. The problem lies with all the promises that were made weren't delivered upon at launch which is when they were promised. Not later.

Good choice. Might be the worst, most disappointing, terrible game since ET for the 2600. I'm angry just thinking about it.
