So i wired everything up. Nothing works at all. I have the rear camera powered locally (12v wire goes to the reverse lights; gnd to gnd)

Rca cable going to pioneer r-cam port in rear of unit

I still think that theres something with the rear camera signal power wire behind the radio. Fml

hey whats going on brother. Soo im still having some backup camera woes. I think i am just missing something minor. I powered the camera from the rear reverse lights (locally) and grounded. I hooked up my camera, and ran my rca cable to the front of the vehicle and verified with a fluke meter that the reverse gave off 12v and was grounded when i threw it into reverse. I also verified that my camera worked by hooking my rear camera rca cable up to a camcorder and as soon as i threw it into reverse, voila! I saw the rear. So the camera is powered and works and no wire breaks!

So then that leaves my question of a few things. Im assuming the head unit needs to see a reverse signal, so im assuming i need to run a wire from a reverse signal to that purple and white reverse signal wire on the back of the pioneer head unit. And i might need to call pioneer and verify that there are no "settings" that need to be changed in the head unit. Thats where i am at :(

I bought a kit from Camera Source which includes the entire wiring harness. The instructions say:
Do not connect the camera red wire to a reverse light because the camera is designed for 6 volts and must get power from the radio.

I have not had a chance to install the kit yet.

It works! Apparently i wired up everything correctly from the get go! I forgot to set the head unit to Camera On. Lol. Didnt think it would default to "off"

Thanks for mentioning about turning on the backup camera from the head unit. I did not know that needed to be done. It would have been discouraging to install the camera and then wonder why it was not working.

I agree that it should default to the on position.
