I decided today that I have heard that silly chime for the last time. I looked at a few pages here where guys were trying to figure out what the fuses go to and which wires to cut or disable. I went outside and looked at the truck for a few minutes and decided to just start taking things apart and this is what I've found.

    3D12DCA8-7F25-40D2-A83B-3C57D04A623F_zps_9433fd74f84368caa793a14c00cfba457885623d.jpg

first off verified the keys were in the ignition and the chime was active. Pushed the little plunger switch down inside the door frame and the chime stops because it thinks the door is closed.

    411C5F57-8496-4B36-B09A-CD613A51A258_zps_71e431d601492d4e4407fe93948d6dcc31829300.jpg

I took a 10mm socket and took that thing off and noticed that before I even fully removed the switch that the chime stopped.

When I removed the 10mm bolt and inspected the switch I found that the back had a metal connector that likely completed some kind of electrical circuit allowing the switch to function properly. Without the screw being able to complete the circuit the chime can't work.

    194C4ECD-CD8B-4511-958C-3930F684B743_zps_d0e5385232e9c8df33b5b05616b8047ce3c7803f.jpg

I decided to remove the switch all together and tape the male connector off so that I didn't lose it back in the door frame in case this causes some sort of problem later. Though removing the switch isn't necessary. You could glue it back in place to stop the chime and it would still look normal just as long as the bolt wasn't in it.

I will add that I have an 06 which I read doesn't have the seatbelt chime. I'm not sure how this would effect any of the newer ones but I did look into lights to make sure my battery wouldn't be drained unknowingly. With this little mod completed, since the truck thinks the door is always closed, the dome light switch will only function as on/off. There will no longer be a "light on when door open" light. However, you can still switch the light to "on" and it will function normally. The headlights act normally and I can't find or think of anything else that would cause any issues. Time will tell I guess.

Gonna try this. That fricking dinging makes me batshit when I want the radio on while I'm cleaning my windshield or whatever else with the door open. Don't know why I haven't looked into stopping it before now. thanks!!!

I'm motivated by all the same reasons. Saw where someone took their cluster out and physically removed the chime itself but I felt like this was FAR more simple

Won't this disable the dome light turning on when you open the door?

Wouldn't it be better to trace that green wire back from the door switch and then locate a place to cut the wire and install a toggle switch to disable the chime only when you want. That way you don't have things taped and hanging out of a hole in the door jam, which is pretty Ghetto IMO.

As I stated in the post. You don't have to tape the connector like I have. You can simply re-attach the switch to the truck with something other than a metal screw. Epoxy, plastic screw, light glue, etc. The metal screw is really the only thing that need to be removed to disable the chime. My intent with this is to be cheap and easy. Most people that just want that chime to go away probably won't chase wires and install switches, IMO. This just requires a 10mm socket and your imagination on how you want it to look after the bolt is removed.

    Another way to do it.

Pull out gauge cluster and look on the back for the speaker. Remove it.

your headlights won't go off automatically anymore, don't forget to turn the switch off when leaving the truck

Yeah I thought about this being a problem with other people. My truck still has manual lights. I enjoy manual everything. Windows that I have to crank up, locks that I physically lock myself, and lights that don't decide for me when they're on or off.

Here is another solution, run a new power wire for the radio that is hot at all times. This way you can listen to the radio with the doors open without the key in the ignition. Then if you walk away from your truck to get a cool drink no one can hop in and drive away.

I just stuck a wrench between the door latch and the switch when I needed my door open for a long time.. Worked wonders.

My neighbor installed a bypass switch, just above the driver side door switch, on his 1st gen Tundra to disable the door chime when he's listening to the radio with the driver door open. He had to drill a hole in the door frame to install the low profile switch. I'm not sure if there is enough room on a Tacoma to do this but it's another option for those considering this mod.

I looked at the wiring diagram for the 2013 Tacoma and when the driver door is closed the driver door switch connects a signal on the Body ECU to the chassis (battery negative). I'll have to ask him how he wired the switch but I suspect it's connected in parallel to the existing driver door switch.

Thanks to the OP for the photos of what's behind the driver door switch.

I assume the OP is taking about the door chime, not the seatbelt warning chime.

There is a way to do this without pulling the cluster out and without losing your dome light.

If you pull the plastic shroud from the steering column, there will be two wires connecting on the right side of the column, near the ignition. Pull the smaller one close to the ignition itself. Boom, no more door chime and you don't have to lose your dome light or mess with the cluster.

I've had this done for more than two years. No problems.

Here's a photo I pulled from the forum (not mine).

I pulled my buzzer off inside the cluster. Favorite thing I've done to the yota so far. The lifetime of happiness is well worth the hour it took me to do this..its actually very simple to do and removes ALL those annoying beeps with no side effects or compromises! :D
