Looking at oil studies, many people that change their oil religiously at less than the recommended mileage are wasting good oil. My truck is at 8000 miles and my 10k service is next week. It will be my first oil change.

Toyota Care ... SERVICE every 5,000 miles. Oil change at 10,000 and 20,000 miles is covered. My oil was clean at 5,000 miles, but at 6400 miles; it was dirty. I paid $80 to have it changed. It is my truck to keep a long time. Toyota expects you to trade it in every few years for a newer Toyota so every 10,000 miles doesn't matter to them.

I am changing mine every 5000 miles now.

Here is the Toyota care doc ... check out 2nd page center column.

Or until someone pays for a new study that says otherwise.
Back at around the year 2000 Toyota had to extend warranties when a lot of their vehicles were gummed up and carbon deposits caused premature engine failures due to their recommended and recently extended oil change intervals.
But full disclosure, that was regular oil and not full synthetic oil.
But I'll change mine every six months or 6-7k just the same

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

What brand oil is everyone using when you DIY? I would be using MOA too for sure.

My service light comes on every 5k miles. My sticker in my window has 5k written from the time of last service. I drive it up to my dealer and tell them it needs an oil change. I leave and come back later in the day, go to the cashier tell them I need to pick up my truck they tell me there is no charge and I drive away. I've done this 3 times with my tacoma and 5 times with my girlfriends camry.

Each time the paperwork has said oil was changed. Never had to pay a dime.

Either my dealer is doing it wrong or your dealerships are shady

if you have a 2016 it is in the book. we go round and round on this every time there is a new oil change thread. 5K/6mos = sunshine treatment, 10K/12mos = oil change, 15K/18mos = sunshine treatment, 20K/24mos = oil change.

Maybe your right but i also know that if it is to long and does cut the life of my motor than who is going to profit if I need a new truck not me.

Starting in 2016 Toyota care only pays for 2 oil changes within 24,000 miles when you read the fine print. But tall the marketing stuff says Toyota care is free for 2 years and or 24,000 miles, and the truck needs serviced at 5,000 miles. The marketing dept was very sneaky on this, as most people that go into a 5K service get the oil changed. But in the owners manual it specifically lays out what is covered in the service at 5K,10K,15K, and 20K. Where the oil is only changed at 10K and 20K. There is a statement that says under special conditions the oil may need to be changed at 5K intervals as for offroading, small trips, etc. But more fine print specifically says Toyota care does not cover special circumstances. In other wards, Toyota care will not cover a 5K oil change regardless if it is justified.

Some of the dealers that are doing this are doing this by mistake, because the typical oil change interval in the industry 5K and they probably didn't see the Toyota care terms that changed.

Looks like my dealer is doing it by mistake then. I have checked all my service papers and everyone has an oil change done. Oil and filter are listed on all of them are stamped "PAID TCM".

There are some dealerships that include lifetime oil changes with the sale of a vehicle. This is a dealership thing and not a Toyota incentive. I have three dealerships within a 30 minute radius from me and the one across the state line will do lifetime oil changes if I buy from them. However that is as long as you are the original owner, non transferable. So maybe your dealership is doing things right.

My vehicle was purchased at a different dealership. It could be since my company has all of the Toyota vehicles in our fleet serviced at their location they are giving me a kickback on my personal. *shurg* who knows.

See what's interesting for me is my salesman sold me "12 oil changes and 12 tire rotations, at 5,000 apart (until 60,000 miles), and the 15,000, 30,000, 45,000 mile services" when checking out. That's how my salesman worded it, not "services up to 60,000 miles". I specifically asked if I get 12 oil changes and 12 tire rotations and he specifically said yes.

Now, when I go to the service department they are going to tell me to go go fuck myself because the salesman doesn't know what he's talking about? I find that interesting, because I have our entire sales process, including this conversation, recorded.

de-badged, tint front windows, led interior lights, door sill protectors, led b/up lights, 5" factory step rails, yellow turn signal bulbs, added 4 D ring tie downs. Took off the black vinyl stripes between the doors. Changed the grill - from Custom Car Grills, Finally got a tonneau cover put on. 31" light bar ( white & amber ), tailgate light bar, sunvisor covers ( to hide warning labels ), new bedside decals - still too cold to put them on tho. Flag decals to go on too, again too cold still. Got a 2 switch, switch plate to replace that useless cubby hole to the left of the steering wheel.. still to be installed ( hopefully this weekend ). Upgraded the tires to G/Y Duratracs... loving them, no plowing the driveway !!
I took my truck in at the 5K service, and asked for the 10K service to be done now, as I wanted the oil changed- as it is a new engine, metal particles... so they did that, and I didn't pay a dime. They weren't going to do it, but that's when I said, just do the 10K service now then.

In that case the mileage is not a factor but the time. The services are set for every 6 months/5000 miles which ever occurs first.

One of the requirements to be a car salesman is to be a good liar. As others said ToyotaCare only covers 24k/2 years with service intervals at 5K. Oil changes occur at 10K and 20K. If it is not in writing from sales and contract it doesn't exist.

As you'll see below, this was in my giant folder that Toyota placed in my glove box. Had the Owners Manual, as well as other little pamphlets of information. Also, this Toyota Care Brochure. As you can see its a 2 year OR 25,000 mile SERVICE plan. Not an OIL CHANGE plan.

Toyota explicitly says every 10k or year, whichever comes first for oil changes.

Notice the chart in the middle with the picture legend. Oil Changes are done at the 12 month/10K and 24 month/20k intervals. the 6 month/5K and 18 month/15K intervals are only tire rotations, multi-point inspections, and inspect and adjust fluid levels.

It's your truck, do your oil changes as you see fit. This is a "free" service, I say free because technically you did pay for it when you bought the truck, its worked into the pricing. But, you don't HAVE to do it. It is your choice.

Yes, some salesman/woman are snakes. They will tell you whatever to make a sale. So get it all in writing with signatures next time. If some people would of just read the brochure, it would of explained everything.
