I have a 2014 double cab offroad and am coming up on my 30k service. I called the dealer today to inquire about what is supposed to be done and they stated the following:

Oil change, tire rotation, "More thorough inspection", replace cabin filter and air filter.

The cost for their service was $225 or they would sale a service planned that covered up to 45k service for $299. I offered to change the filters myself and the price was going to be $70 for oil change, rotation and inspection.

When I look at the schedule A in the manual it says that it should also include lubricating propellar shaft and re-torqueing propelling shaft bot as well as replacing the spark plugs.

So what really needs done at the 30k service?

The last paragraph would be a good idea.

The 4.0 V6 requires a spark plug change at 30k. The 2.7 I4 does not. The prop shaft requires grease every 15k if it has grease fittings, but most people lube those at every oil change.

So is it worth it to buy the service agreement for the next 4 services if they cover everything the book says? Do most people just do it themselves after the free toyota care changes end?

I personally did not even use Toyota care. The oil changes and tire rotations are so easy that I just do it myself.

the toyota care plus plan for 30k service includes, oil change, rotation, spark plugs, rear diff fluid changed, air filter, cabin filter, rear brake clean & adjust, and just ask them to grease the shaft while performing the service if you do purchase the plan. shouldnt charge you in my opinion.

That's really not too bad a deal. I mean the inspection in NY is $37, so for another $33 you get an oil change and rotation. Seems solid.

Same here as well as rear diff oil change. I will do the plugs soon. I am no mechanic, but these things were pretty easy to do.

If you can, lube the u joints every oil change. I thought all the diffs and transfer case, if equipped, were also to have fluids changed at 30k.

Prerunners have no fittings to grease in the drive shaft.

If you wanna save yourself some dough, do the oil change, cabin air filter, engine air filter, and rotate tires yourself. Probably do everything for about $50 total with some elbow grease.

You can change your own spark plugs for about $15 depending on if you have the tools ( which you can always borrow from autozone). Although my opinion changing these at 30k is overkill. Probably can easily wait til 40k or 50k.

    Not true.

Prerunner owners need to check for grease fittings.

Mine came from the factory with zerks in the universal joints.

I purchased the dealers $299 service package, at 20K the service writer kept insisting on doing the 30k. I kept saying no, then he said it's your truck and you can do whatever you want, like something bad was going happen.

In regards to changing the spark plugs at 30k, you'll notice the manual (at least for my V6) has a footnote (4) which says it is required for the 'terms of the Emissions Warranty.' Turns out that warranty is only good for 2 years and 24,000 miles. I'm no mathematician but, "hey Toyota, that already expired 6,000 miles ago!" Another car manufacturer scam debunked. Might want to keep working harder on those 'sticky' gas pedals.
That being said, the warranty does also note that certain items are covered for 8 years / 80 k if you change spark plugs at 30k and 60 k. The only significant one being the Cat Conv.
