When the AC is turned on, you feel a slight dip in power or speed or whatever the hell happens. My question is: should I wait for the engine to warm up somewhat before turning it on? The very little I know about engines includes knowing that you don't want to load them too much before it's warm.

One more stupid AC question: Does it hurt the AC unit to immediately hit the button to Off after turning on the fan? At end of day it's in AC mode because it's hot out. In the morning I want heat, but I turn the fan on and it's still in AC mode so I quickly hit the button to Off so as not to get the above-mentioned surge.

The extra load from your A/C will in no way damage the engine, even if the engine is cold. The A/C fan isn't linked to the compressor (the part that you're noticing engine load from) and the state of the fan and the compressor or heating system cannot damage each other.
