Today I found that my engine oil filler cap is missing. Only 2500 miles on the truck and for all I know the cap has always been missing. I'm going to dealer tomorrow to get it fixed. I assume it would be reasonable to ask that they also perform and oil change as well?

Well, be prepared to tell them they were the last ones under the hood, if that's the truth of the matter............

Can't hurt to ask for an oil change based on potential contamination, especially if you're in a dusty climate, or a very wet (splashing) climate.

I predict this will be your 'test' of how much faith you put in your dealer for future needs.

While someone will bounce in here and rant about the oil cap should not have been lost, and that's true, stuff happens. And the prep guys are on the bottom end of the food chain. Some of them do actually care about quality of what they do, and they are the ones that move up or out.

No one has ever been under the hood really. It's never even had an oil change yet. I don't expect much hassle.

You guys are very helpful to new members. Really appreciate it. Maybe it's worth posting so others can check their damn oil cap?

This. Also welcome to TW. Good luck in the 3rd Gen thread. These guys are animals... with creature comforts out the ass. Your best bet is to get it taken care of and never return to this thread.

Sounds like some of you are awful defensive about people posting any thing potentially negative about the 3rd Gen. I wasn't even bitching about it just asking a simple question.

There's a lot of people that roam the 3rd gen section with the sole intention of making people's life difficult. Why? No clue, but they're out there. Not all of us are bad, just ignore those that have poor intentions and don't actually care.
Welcome to the forum! Cogratulations on the new taco. With this thread hopefully other new owners will check their oil cap before anything bad can happen
