    Trying to justify one person's actions by saying "but so and so did it first" doesn't make it right, just means you're both wrong.
    The first tourists to come to Yellowstone walked where ever they pleased, camped where ever they pleased, drove where ever, killed what ever....etc, etc.... Does that mean we should let people today do the same? No. No one understood the importance of the area then or how fragile and precious it is. Rules are enforced to stop such behavior and protect the area from the average ignorant tourist.
