Oahu still get fish? :spy: just kidding. catch and release all the way, unless you gaffed um in the stomach or something. I'm starting to file all the barbs off my treble hooks to make it less damaging. I only whip/plug now... I don't think I have the patience for bait casting slide baiting any more.

I have not fished here, but in NJ i did most surf fishing, back bays, jetty, and boat fishing for tuna, mahi mahi, sailfish. I would change all my trebles to single hooks crush barbs on all, I only use plugs, jigs, metal unless on boat. I also dont keep fish unless i join a charter with others or if the fish is gut hook...

I looked for a sport fishing charter like popping and jigging here in Oahu but no luck, all big conventional reals for deep sea. I was hoping for a charter using Stella spinning, any one familiar with GT Fight Club (great trevally fishing club) they are based in Waianae Hi.

There are some shore casting members here. Depends on what kind of fish you're looking to catch.

anything really just to get the lines wet. Some papio and ulua would be nice. not sure what other fish are caught on the shoreline here. I know the cliff rock game is wild here, with the sliding rigs and bait, but i rather plug and whip.

you said Stella. now I know you're serious. lol. I don't think there are many, if at all, charters that do stuff like GTFC. you gonna have to find a friend and go out. or, take outer island fishing trips. this is where the super ferry would've been golden.

in case anyone is wondering what gt plugging is about, check these out. it's insane.

Super ferry needs to come back! Im sure everyone would enjoy a large tacoma off road meet as well.

Iʻm not too familiar with the fishing shops there... maybe @polekasta knows? I know of Charleyʻs in town and Ewa Pawn shop. not sure if they carry the GT plugs though. I wanna try the GT Ice Cream lures. but first I gotta get one heavy rod and an 8k or 10k series reel. right now, Iʻm only light plugging with an 11ʻ Assassin Spinmaster XH (Australian made) and a 6k Spheros with 40# j-braid. get one guy here in Kona who throws a custom GTFC pole, and an 8k Saragosa catching pelagics from shore. if you have IG, look up "butteryfish". lol

also, on youtube, search for "Joe Olivas". old guy, heavy on the pidgin, catching monsters from shore.

yea Im familiar with those gear set up also Joe Olivas, seen his vids he actually reminds me of my uncle. Yes and butterfly fish I have seen some of the post also nice job. I did not bring any gear to HI I figured if I really want to fish it would give me a reason to buy new gear right.. haha. I was fishing with a CTS custom built 11ft with a van staal 250 30lb power pro and st. criox mojo 9ft and van staal 150 with 20 lb power pro. I believe Iv seen a post with GTFC using custom CTS rod as well, they are real nice rods, rods made for plugging 1-3oz also 3-6oz but pricey toward $500, but amazing caste game!
