    I wonder if anyone thought that maybe the oil cap was loose and simply unscrewed itself and fell off from vibration. Even a blind prep guy would have noticed an oil cap was off. Also the V6 doesn't make as much of a noise as the 4 cylinder, but there would have been noise and oil over spray of some sort somewhere after 2,500 miles. Just saying.

    This is what I think most likely happened but not a drip has come out of there.

    An Oil change can never hurt, only help (if its done correctly), so I would just get it done. Even if they won't do it for free, it gives you the piece of mind

    Obviously.

    Vacuum occurred to me, but I've also seen several vehicles running for, say, half an hour without an oil cap and no lights or trouble codes given as a result. So.. that's where I was coming from.

    At 2500 miles the oil in my truck showed very little color. If you oil is showing anything more than a light straw color I would change it. Good luck with your dealer giving you a new cap. I doubt they will even have it in stock. I appreciate your post I don't appreciate the fact that every time a newby posts there is always a cock fight on this site.

    Curious does this forum have any moderators? Must not, but if there is are they on vacation? There is about 10 people I wish weren't allowed to post in the 3rd gen section.

    I honestly would have asked the same question (after scheduling an appointment at the dealership), and wouldn't want someone harassing me if I were the OP.

    There's a lot of admin here, actually, and one posted in this thread just a few pages ago who banned the instigator, which you must have missed.

    How many times have you clicked the "Report" button on those 10 people? They don't float around like phantoms, if you see an issue, report it. Otherwise, nobody is going to see it?

    I'm totally with you man... I dropped my oil cap into the "never never land" that's below the engine but above the pan..(this was on my 2006 Taco)... It took me about 1 hour to find that bastard. I think it was actually moving every time I thought I saw it, I'd go get something to knock it out onto the driveway... when I got back...it had moved and hid again... After that day, I put a small "leash" on it...it never strayed again...

    :thumbsup::thumbsup:

    So I am browsing hoping to find info on oil changes in 3rd gen section....and what a bunch of garbage...I know I have seen posts that have a purpose, but a guy who did not know he had his oil cap on. I hope it isnt all like this...I see the rape of a sailor on this thread, a fellow veteran by non veterans and only one veteran response that kinda reminds of someone who still thinks hes in charge of digging foxholes in the hills, sad stuff and shall I even go as far as dangerous even by internet standards quite stupid.

    Is every 3rd gen thread I look at gonna be condemnation of its members who comment on posts as bad as this? Really you non veterans charging a vet because of his username? balls..you got to lose.

    I think I will look elsewhere a remember these users who piss on one while practicing bigotry and hippocracy at the same time....

    I dont have a problem telling you like it is boys. Onto something with meat on the bone.

    Well then..that escalated very quickly :rofl: OP if you haven't had any problems yet and have been driving around without it for 5k miles I wouldn't worry about contamination. I'd do what many others have already suggested change the oil and call it a day.
