I had the Toyota dealer change the shift points for my 2016 tacoma, the truck feels alot nicer to drive. The engine does not make as much noise when acelerating and the cruse control works better.

King, that's outstanding. That's helpful; the dealer working with you like that.

I wasn't aware that this is possible... I would prefer having the engine run a couple hundred more RPM before upshifting...

It is absolutely possible and nothing more than changing scalar values in the engine management code. There are EPA implications for Toyota though. This would likely increase carbon emissions, albeit only a smidgen.

Yes, completely realize it is indeed possible, I was just unaware that a dealer could perform the change.... or would be willing to do so...

It worked out good for that guy and would certainly be a nice customer service gesture to accommodate customers complaining of overzealous downshifting in hilly areas.

I had the TSB done Monday of this week. Seems to drive better on highway. I was using the ECT button on the highway before the TSB and that seemed to help smooth things out but the service guy said it would not go into 5th or 6th on ECT on the freeway.

ECT seems like it needs more explanation than what I am finding.

Also my truck was built in July/2016, so not sure if they made some minor changes but I did not have the delay issues when going from park to drive or reverse to drive.

Had mine done this morning with my first oil change. Didn't take long at all. I have not had the truck out much since so to early to notice any difference.

    Pretty stock for now
The dealer told you that you can't use ECT in 5th or 6th gear?

Update, previously noticed my fuel economy went down but it's coming back up.

I have recorded 5 consecutive days my transmission failed with less than 500 miles on the truck. I filed a complaint with Toyota corporate. They told me to work with the dealer. So, I followed their instructions. The dealer cannot replicate the issue after having the car for a total of 5 days (two separate tickets). The dealer test drove the truck, and in addition, says their computer shows everything is operating to specification. It is clear that the dealer is not empowered to solve my problem unless they can log something with their Techstream, which likely, cannot diagnose a transmission.

To date, Toyota has not solved this and/or assured I was a satisfied customer. I am hoping this will change very soon.

To be fair, I will certainly report how Toyota takes care of me if and when they do. I am putting faith in Toyota to stand behind their product.

How is this related to the TSB?

Wondering if ya'll can nail down an issue I'm having which could be related to the transmission, but I'm not entirely sure.
Every morning I have to negotiate a very small parking lot which takes quite a bit of back and forward nudging to get the truck into my parking spot. When in reverse, the truck tends to lurch or not move at all unless I add quite a bit of gas. Typically, when an auto transmission vehicle is in drive (or reverse), idle speed is slow but fairly constant. The fact that mine wants to jump around randomly worries me, not only due to their being a potential mechanical problem, but I've come close to hitting some of the cars around me. I've actually resorted to driving two-footed just to be prepared for breaking when the truck decides to do its own thing.
I did take the truck in shortly after purchase in mid-June to check tranny fluid and everything was reportedly fine. Baffled!

You may have a valve body problem. I recommend you call 1 (800) 331-4331 and open up a case with Toyota customer service. They will have you bring the vehicle to the dealership for diagnostics, but the repairs will be visible to Toyota corporate. This will cover your tail down the road.

Thanks! Curious if this process will annoy the mechanics at the dealership as opposed to just taking it in and seeing what they say. I do try to build a good relationship with the service department as it's better to have them on your side. At the same time, I do appreciate your feedback as I don't want to be hypochondriac when it comes to the truck's qwerks and piss off the service department with too many bogus calls. Cheers!

The TSB caused the problems? You had no problems before the TSB?

Been averaging 21 since filled up Sunday nearly all in city miles. Losing the air dam has not hurt me in town. Will know more on next road trip.

Hi Swimmer. No, My truck had the TSB performed before I took delivery. Really, I am bringing awareness that "some" may have additional problems after the TSB. If their symptoms are like mine, they need to let corporate know, or they could end up with a big bill down the road.
