No matter which vent setting I use, the windshield vents always blow conditioned air. This is causing the outside of the windshield to condensate. Granted, humidity level has been 148% here lately. Anyone else have this issue? Also, if I select floor vents only, I can still feel air coming from the dash vents. Is this normal? TIA.

From the tips and tricks sticky:

If you press the recirculate button with the cooler/heater fan in the OFF position, all airflow into the passenger compartment will cease.

Can someone tell me if they select floor vents, do you still feel air coming from the outboard dash vents?

Do you need to know, or care?
^^^ this. But no, if I have defrost off and floor vents on, I might get a little stray but nothing significant that I can think of.

    None...yet
    Normal. ?
So a normal defrost since, well, we were all born, will run A/C while in Defog. The reason is that the a/c removes system humidity. This happens even in Hot Defog. So in February when you run max-hot Defog, the a/c compressor can still run to dehumidify the air. In the summer the Defog runs and it makes the a/c run and you have to use wipers to clear the exterior condensation.

Now, for all other modes. If the outside temp and dewPoint is higher than your interior vent temp (and it should be) your windows should fog a bit. Or condensate. Lots of things affect this like relative airflow, surface temp, surface reflectivity, thermal transfer, etc. If they do not, call NASA because you have discovered alien technology.

It's the humidity levels outside causing you all that grief.

Wow, that was very in depth. I like your style.

I know how condensation works but I'm really just trying to figure out why air is coming thorough the w/s vent when it's not selected. It's not a lot but it's enough to cause condensation on my way to work in the am. Bugs the hell out of me.

The air doors don't seal 100%. So you get some bleed air going to the other vents

snagged this image from the service manual.

the circle size represents different amounts of airflow in each position. large white circles are the most flow.
there is always air-bleed through the vents, however. the air diverter flaps in the blower box are plastic with foam "seals" around the edge, which always pass a little bit of air.

I had some free time at work today and used our videoscope to look into why my damn windshield keeps condensating. It does it even with just the dash vents selected and it's only in one spot. The defrost valve works as it should and the foam gasket is all intact. A rubber insert with a hole in it caught my eye. I was wondering if this is defective or not. Also what the hell is it's purpose?? TIA.

    P.S. I know it looks like lady parts. Maybe I found my Tacoma's g-spot. I dunno:notsure:

View is looking down, into the windshield vent. First pic shows the top of the defroster valve.

I circled said valve in this diagram. Thanks again @Murrayb4 .

I too have a 2017 Tacoma TRD OR and I live in the humid southeast. I too have the problem with my windshield fogging up even when it's set to blow from the front dash and not the windshield vents. Unfortunately, no matter what I set it at, it still slightly blows the cold air from the upper dash vents. It is very aggravating and I was thinking that they may have pinched a seal during install at the factory causing air to leak from the top. This is my 3rd Tacoma and I have never experienced this. Does anyone have this issue as well?

yep. If it's humid outside and I've got my ac on, it'll do that.

The thing is, I never had this issue with my other vehicles before. And I have lived in the same location. Just this new 3rd gen Tacoma. It basically fogs up the whole middle lower portion of the windshield.

On a side note...that's an awesome mountain pic. Where is that?

I've had three tacomas, one 2011 and two 2016s. They all did the same thing depending on how humid it was outside. It was always the same center lower portion even though I had the front vents on. It bleeds to the windshield vent. This was posted earlier that shows the slight bleed through:

The mountains in my sig are Linville Gorge. Awesome place for some good hiking, scenery, camping, waterfalls, etc. It's about a 12 mile gravel/dirt road with hills and curves that runs along the top rim of it with multiple pull off spots. That particular spot was Wiseman's View with I believe Hawksbill and Table rock across the river.

Thanks for bringing this thread back to life @rnls06. I no longer feel like I'm losing my shit. I have mitigated the problem by selecting both floor and dash vents, and turning off the recycled air. It does make a difference. I dare not let dealership disembowel my dash (sorry, been watching "Game of Thrones") and still drive home with the same issue.
