This may be a dumb question and I may get criticism for it, but what are the benefits of having a hard wired air compressor?

Wouldnt a 12v cigarette lighter version do the same? Maybe not as fast, but pretty close to the timeframe.

    Just curious...

For me, I keep a air tool set just in case I need to assist someone changing out a tire or myself, especially since I plan on getting beadlock wheels. Drying your car is made easier when washing it or cleaning out the interior. Flat tires, sports equipment, air mattresses, fabrication, painting...etc. Anything on the go or somewhere that doesn't have an accessible compressor.

Convenience, necessity for ARB lockers, storage space, compressor size (can be 30+ amps which is probably too much for cigarette lighter), air tank necessary to run air tools

Cigarette style are limited to 10-15 amps and take forever. Units that hook straight the battery can draw up to 30-40 amps and are a lot faster. Units hard wired in with air tanks are better yet. But if you are looking for speed, and don't mind spending $10-15 every once in a while to fill up, CO2 is the way to go. 10# will air up 25+ 35" tires from 10-35psi. And has the ability to run air tools with out slowing down.

do you think it would fit under the passenger seat as well? I already have the same compressor, just haven't gotten the taco yet and was trying to think of places. Was thinking under passenger seat like I had in my previous vehicle.

Might just be me, but instead of using CO2 could I use a SCBA tank? It's compressed air at 4500 psi. Firefighters use it all the time and we have a fill at my station. Just gotta find the right adapters I would think.

If you could regulate it down to the 150psi or so. Not sure how long it would last compared to co2.

For my money time & trouble to setup a quality on board air tank system, I'd rather go the CO2 route...

    Hope that helps

We used to carry large air tanks in our service trucks, but the CO2 is the wtg

Each have their own advantages. Depends on application which is better for you. For me, it's OBA. Plus that is the topic of this thread, not which is better. Sub'd to see more mounting location ideas

we have an attachment that is used for vehicle extrication. The SCBA is used top fill rubber air bags that lift the vehicle. So it has a regulator that drops to 150, and can be metered down further. I just need to go look at the setup and see what can be done.

Did you use self taping screws? Where did you end up mounting your tank?

made compr. mount out of 1/4 plate.Slightly notched webbing under bed and mounted 2.5 gal. viair tank with 3/8 bolts through floor.
used 1/8 plate support in bed. Have bed mat and don't even notice support plate.

Turned out that welding the bolts to the tank legs and then cutting off excess thread after bolting tank down worked best for me.
