Sorry, somehow I missed this question on the thread. You should be able to remove the main mesh divider section, but the "L" brackets would have to remain in place. Depending on what you are trying to do the "L" brackets for the slider may get in the way a bit.

I thought about a cargo net as a solution as well, but ultimately needed something more rigid for my application. I think this is a great solution.

The bed rails have a small plastic cap at the very end near the tail gate that you have to pull off and then you should be able to slide the bed divider out completely.

I just installed a BakFlip MX4 tonneau cover......the installation called for lowering the OEM rail system about 1.25".....Will the Toyota cargo divider work? I can seem to find any dimensions.....I have a BedRug bed liner on floor...

The exact dimensions for the OEM bed divider are:

    L: 54 7/8"
    H: 16"
    W: 1 1/2"

I know that there is a gap at the bottom with the standard rail height so a 1 1/4" drop would likely still fit. I do not have it installed at present to verify. The length also has a small amount of play.

I am using the OEM bedcover that came with the 2016 Tacoma. Sorry for any confusion. I just looked at the MX4 and it looks like a very nice cover. Good luck!

This. For less than the cost of the 2x8s I bought for the bed to put 4x8 sheets in, I got two dividers from fat guys auto. $9 a piece. Bought two to stack and work just as good as the $300 bed divider

Harbor Freight sells some dividing bars like that as well, and if I remember correctly they were about $10 a piece...

Coming late to this party, but +1 on flipping the bed divider brackets "upside-down". They worked for me right-side up, but the divider was a huge PITA to remove when installed like that (I have a bed mat, which didn't help any). Flipping the brackets upside-down makes it easy to undo the knobs and simply lift the divider straight up. With the divider out, the brackets can easily be removed individually, if needed.

Upside-down almost seems like it should have been the intended installation method for this very reason.

No, I've got a Extang Trifecta. My comment was more related to general installation/removal of the divider in any circumstances.

But, I did get some measurements for you that will hopefully be helpful (if you still need them).
I've got the OEM bed mat, and there's about 1 3/16" clearance between the bottom of the divider and the bed mat.
With the bed mat out of the way, there's 1.5" between the bottom of the divider and the bed floor.
I'm guessing your bed rug is slightly thinner than the bed mat, so you may be nearly touching the bed rug by lowering the rails 1.25", but I'm guessing it would work with no problem.

EDIT: Is this how the OEM bedrail is relocated? I found this image on the BakFlip website. It appears that not only is the OEM rail mounted lower (as you mentioned), it also appears to be more inboard, by about 1/2" or more, I'm guessing? If this is the case, you'd also have to modify the bed divider by cutting a small amount off each end of the divider. In an OEM setup, there's about 1/4" - 3/8" clearance between each end of the divider, and the ends of the mounting pockets in the brackets.

3" Lift, 17" Rotiform Wheels, BF Goodrich AT Tires, Custom Bumper Cover, Cargo Divider, BakFlip MX4 Tonneau, 3M, Tub Mats, Bed Mat, OEM Running Boards, Mud Flaps
    This worked for me...

Installed BakFlip MX4 Tonneau as per Tecoma instructions found in these forums.
    It's water tight!
Trimmed ~ 1/2" off each end of the OEM Cargo Divider.
Flipped the Cargo Divider Brackets upside down (found that tip in these forums).
CD now slides straight up and down, in and out of the brackets.
Added a 3/8" spacer to lift the CD above the Cargo Mat (Love the OEM Mat BTW!).

The only extra parts I need are fastener bolts that are 3/8" longer than the factory supplied bolts. In the pics, it looks like I've fastened the CD to the brackets from the top. This is not the case. I've just attached the fasteners there until I get longer bolts. When I have the longer bolts I'll fast the CD to the brackets from the underside.

Everything works flawlessly, and I don't have to remove any tonneau brackets to slide the CD up and back, or to install the tie down cleats.

Much thanks to those who supplied tips on this site. Couldn't have done it without you !

When you lay a 1x6 flat you could measure to the bottom of the bed an screw a 1x to the bottom of the 1x6. I may experiment with that!
