My dad has an '06 Sierra 2500 with the Duramax. Turns down at least one offer a month.

Toyota's new slogan should be "Tacoma. Not as crappy as the competition."

I say again...When I started looking for a "non-full-sized" pickup, I went to a Chebby dealer first, thinking the Colorado was just what I was looking for. I sat in it, I felt the seat, I looked around...I got out and never looked back. The most boring, plastic, overpriced thing I'd ever seen. AND, they wanted me to spend MY hard-earned money on it. Sorry, not gonna happen.

If I found the Colorado to be a better truck for my needs I'd do it in a heartbeat, no fanboy here. The only reason I didn't consider the Colorado when I bought my 2014 Tacoma is I don't buy a vehicle until it has been out on the market for a couple of years. I'm in no rush to get rid of my Tacoma, it is a nice little truck, but I seriously doubt it will be replaced with another Tacoma when the time comes.

Ford has had a 3.7L V6 making more than 300 hp for several years now, used in everything from the base F150 to the base Mustang. Toyota had the 3.5L 2GR-FSE making more than 300 hp for over a decade in the IS350, but they had the sense to retune the powerband for Tacoma use. The Colorado's peak power is made at 6800 rpm. And the axle ratio is very tall at 3.41:1. All the revving and frequent shifting that 3rd gen Taco owners complain about, are amplified with the Colorado.

The base 4-cyl in the Colorado is actually pretty impressive at 199 hp - more than the 5VZ V6 in 1st gen Tacomas. However, if it's designed anything like the 4- and 5-cyl engines in the previous Colorado I'd stay the hell away - the engines by design are not easy to service. For example, changing the VVT cam phasor takes about 16 hours: it requires removing the front timing cover, which in turn requires removing the oil pan, which in turn requires undoing a few bolts holding the engine block to the tranny...

    This thread is funny.....

I was always a Toyota fan and just coming off a 9 year relationship with a 2007. I went to the dark side and bought a 2016 Canyon. The only reason I didn't buy a Tacoma again - is Toyota's extreme limited offerings in packages & Options. That's it.......My 'wants' and 'needs' exceed what Toyota had to offer. I don't get discouraged too much with exterior or interior looks. Interior quality seemed pretty equal when we were comparing them at the PA Auto show. Believe me...we went back-n-forth between models over and over again poking and prodding at everything. Plastic, plastic, and more plastic.

You'll never hear me say one is better than the other. I see all sorts of complaints on this forum and I see all sorts of complaints on the Colly/Canny forums. I won't have any complaints until GM/Chevy can't *take care of issues* that might come up. I'm crossing my fingers pretty hard that this thing treats me right. Near the end of my 3 year warranty - we'll see what happens.

It is a completely different culture....

But why...after only 2 years in production, would they change to a different engine & tranny? Seems a little drastic and a lot of wasted time in re-engineering. Not cost effective?? That's totally opposite of Toyota...whom keeps the same basic truck for 10-20 years.

Funny, most the things I read here about the Tacoma's laundry list of "quality" issues and the comparison tests GM keeps winning over Toyota lauding their interior are quite the opposite...

Hey, I know 3 guys who have Tacoma's and absolutely hate them and are in the shop half the time. See how the internet works?

Honestly both are good trucks, Toyota fans are just timid there is actual new competition that keeps beating them in test and with reviewers (not sales) so they feel the need to strike back. You should be happy, competition is a good thing, helps promote advancement for your own trucks.

BTW, the way you are talking these aren't 1980's GM interiors anymore...

In our 3 vehicles that have had it we have not had any issues. Most the issues were early 5.3's when it was first introduced. The last gen and this gen haven't had much outside of an anomaly failure or replacement. It helps with gas mileage, is seemless in it activating so doesn't add much complexity or weight.

One of my best friends is in sales and his tahoe recently passed 190k with it, no oil issues, failures or anything drive-train wise, just a few QC issues.

As much as I want no additional complexity to my motors truth is any new vehicles going forward will (start stop, DoD, hybrid tech, ect.) are here and more and more are getting it to meet cafe. Kind of a double edge sword. While vehicles are getting more and more dependable they are having more and more complexity added.

Might as well embrace it, the days of simple are slowly winding down and those of us that work on our own vehicles it is becoming harder and hard to do.

Last June I sold my 2011 V6 Tacoma and got diesel Colorado. I liked the Tacoma a lot, but I was disappointed with towing performance, power and mpg. The Toyota was much better than the Ridgeline I had, not in power but in transmission performance. The Ridgeline hunted gears like it was daze and confused.

I'm not sorry I made the switch to the Colorado. It's like night and day, pulling uphill just seams effortless and getting 16mpg towing vs. 12mpg on the Tacoma is a big bonus. The access cab Tacoma front end had a tendency to pogo on concrete slab highways and I found lowering the front tire pressure help. The heavier diesel (200lbs more than the v6) with stronger front stock springs feels better.

Oh, did mention I did a 45 mile round trip strictly highway, no load averaging 65mph and got 38mpg?

Okay haters, tell my how I'm going to regret owning a Chevy. Had my '92 Silverado for 15 yrs. and replaced it with a 2007 2500Hd Duramax which I still own. Both have been great trucks.

Glad your like your new Colorado, sounds like a great truck. Get back to us in 200,000 miles and tell us how much it cost you to keep it running.

Probably less than your truck as GM's usually don't take much more than gas, tires and oil and their drivetrains are some of the best. With them being domestic everything is cheaper and it gets much better mpg so you can run the numbers on that...

All these ASSumptions on new vehicles based off old are silly. Think the current Tacoma will be as reliable as as the 80's model on Top Gear? Think the interior is on the same level? New vehicle = new standards and reliability, period.

I have a Tacoma and wish I didn't buy one.

    I think Toyota should worry.

    Anecdotal evidence is fun.
