My 2016 just did this last night for the first time just as described. 315 miles, production date 7/29. Looks like just with the autos, there is a TSB and known issue but isnt going to fix anything unless you complain.

I changed all of oil out of the transmission transfer case and front and rear diff for 75w-90 Valvoline syntec at 5000 miles. It has quieted the truck down and shifts much easier. I think its the cheap oil they are using and I had a ton of metal shavings on the front and rear diff magnet. I have 10000 miles and it shifts great.

Damn. What a saga. I thought I was the only M/T in Austin. :)

Out of curiosity, what dealer were you working with as you went through all of this? Just wanted to know in case I start having similar troubles. So far, mine's still perfect.

I just left my dealer. They told me they had to recreate the issue even though I had a video of it. Told them it will take a good bit of driving to get it hot, then need to leave it in 5th for a bit while traveling in Atlanta traffic and it "might do it". I asked if they thought they would have a tech drive it for an hour to get it to maybe do it for a 1hr billable repair, and he looked at me worried. I told him I thought so and I just ordered the part. The $9 pin is cheaper to do my self vs taking off work, having the wife pick me up, burn my gas, and just for a maybe.

Haha this is a $9 fix? And to think I was mildly concerned about having this issue. For $9 no one at a dealership is touching my truck. I'll fix it myself if need be

My problem solved with TSB Done. found out this weekend when I went on a trip ,the only thing is shifter is not tight anymore. You can move shifter around when in gear .I guess that's better than being stuck in gear. Seems like the detent ball needs to be in between two sizes.

I wondered about that. Wish I could see exactly where/how it engages. Wonder if it'll loosen up on its own if we do nothing. Shifts so well now, I'd hate to mess with it.

After getting it done and finding my shifter is loose I wish I had measurements of the balls to be able to replace myself if wanted to try different sizes. There is a plug on side of transmission they remove and swap out the detent balls

I'm getting one tomorrow. By this weekend I'll be able to give some comparison. Maybe it's something we can modify ourselves by polishing or taking fine sand paper to and thin it out enough. I may drop this one in if there is no other way though. Mine seems to be happening more for some reason. Although I could be just looking for it and trying to make it happen

Mine seems like when it was about 99 degrees in humid out and drove truck hard. When transmission gets hot. Wish I knew what size the ball is originally

Okay they called it a detent ball so I assumed it was round. Thanks for clarifying that

I bashed my dealer hard on Google because they sent me away without any concern for my safety and acting like it was an inconvenience to deal with it. The GM called me to apologize and to come in and they will get it done. I'm not sure if I want to let them do it, may still do it myself, but might let them address any other concerns if I do since I have their attention.

If you end up doing it yourself let me know size of pan and what you used, going to try to make mine tighter, thanks

Does it seem like our clutch engages really high? I'm use to new clutches engaging near the floor. Just trying to make a list of stuff to check out since they are making me put my truck in the shop under 1000 miles

I have a brand new OEM Toyota clutch in my '04 and it engages really high, I guess it just depends on the clutch and/or pedal configuration.
