    Hi All,
Check engine light came on the other day (4800 miles) simultaneous with the TRC light. Took to dealer and code was for timing issues.

Has anyone had any problems with the timing chain on a new Tacoma???

Kind of disappointed and a little nervous. Dealer told me to keep the loaner car over the weekend!! Yikes!

CPS (Crank Position Sensor) has had many reports of issue. Suspect that's what yours is too.

The timing chain itself has no sensors.

    Thoughts?

Yes. Sleep well, knowing your warranty will handle it.

Unlikely any research or worry on your part will change the path of correction the dealer follows.

P0016 points to a possible problem with the crankshaft position sensor, P1600 is a possible ECM or power to the ECM.

It would help if it were more specific but as Bill points out, that's the dealer's problem to diagnose as it falls under warranty repairs.

Thanks everyone! The dealer says they have a call into Toyota - attempting to find out if there is a history of this problem with the Tacoma's and how to correct. In the meantime the loaner Camry is a nice ride but now it is giving a tire low pressure warning!!!! Can't win for losing! :)
    Will post follow-up from dealer/Toyota.

    Happy Hump Day Everyone!!!
Well, the check engine light came on again the other day (Toyota replaced it in Aug, 2016)!!! I heard this crazy pinging noise and thought - Is that me?? I opened my door and sure enough it was my truck - check engine light illuminated.
Toyota dealer said it was again the "Crankshaft Position Sensor" and they will replace it as Toyota says they may have sent a faulty one the first time around.
SO.......... I said "Hey - wait a minute. Perhaps there really is something wrong that throws that code. I bad sensor doesn't make that kind of noise!!
They are now be pulling the "left side south valve cover" off and taking pictures of the #5 cam for Toyota to review.
I'm really nervous about all this and want to pursue getting a new truck!!!!

Any thoughts, comment etc....... I would appreciate the help. Nothing negative please....

You'll get taken care of.. if anything, you can try and push for an extended warranty on the motor, but certainly a minor engine issue isn't cause for a replacement vehicle. Nothing is wrong with the truck just because something might be wrong with an engine component. Major engine issues get new engine blocks and rebuilt, or they get used engines pulled and repaired from other problem vehicles.

I'd try and get that notion out of your head, you'll definitely not be getting a new truck unless you're buying it.

All that aside, hang in there. Been there myself, and I know it sucks.

Time to call Corporate and start a case with them. 1-800-331-4331

You don't have to throw shade on the Dealership as long as you feel they're doing their part to take care of you but I'd DEFINITELY let them know how this has damaged your confidence in the vehicle. At a minimum I'd be pushing for an extended warranty from corporate at this juncture.

We buy Toyota's so that we don't have to deal with these kinds of problems yet here some of us are with the Third gen having engines torn open, rear ends replaced, etc.

You're welcome. Good luck and keep us posted. I've dealt with corporate a bit so let me know if you have more questions and I can provide you with some of my specific experiences.
