Untrue, the '16 MK7 Golf with their MIB II Infotainment has been suffering a similar fate. Apple car play malfunctions, reboots, and freeze ups.

I know this is a tacoma forum, I found this thread interesting because I swapped into 2016 Tundra a couple weeks ago and a few days ago mine was rebooting every few minutes. I forced a restart and it hasn't done it since. BTW I live in the Austin area where we had all this rain and my radio has the app/nav suite in it. It has only threw a fit that one day so far, I was thinking it was a fluke but it was interesting since everyone here was mentioning rain.

I never had it happen on any of my toyota vehicles before but this was the first time I have had one with the app suite in it.

Mine started doing this today. I live in the Chicago area and it is not raining. My iPhone is paired and I have my iPad charging via the usb. Called the dealer and gave him my head unit number (510103) and they are ordering a new one. My rebooted every 20-30 min.

I suspect the ipad connected to the USB was causing it to reboot. The USB is not designed to charge devices.

I have an SR5 with Entune Plus that's paired to an iPhone 6+ and I've never experienced any rebooting, so it might just be a problem with Entune Premium. I also live in the Houston area and drove through a lot of rain over the past 2 weeks.

I think that says it all! BS on Toyota and their dealers with the lame song and dance they are doing about this problem. I want to complement the OP of this thread for having a video of exactly what my head unit has been doing along with problems with their Bluetooth system. I have have done updates on my head unit and still it will lock up for no reason and I can't even shut it down with the on/off switch. Nope have to completely kill the power to the head unit by turning off the truck and had to sometimes do it multiple times, on/off with ignition to get it to unlock and work. Toyota answer to this problem has been pure BS with saying take it to the dealer. That would be great when it locks up that the nearest dealer was just a few miles away and I didn't have to work for a living, assholes! And please tell me Toyota, or anyone, what is the dealer service tech going to say and do when you roll into the shop and they can't duplicate the problem? How about this Toyota believe in your customers and replaces these defective head units but I know that would be asking to much!

I agree. On the way home I unplugged the iPad and it never rebooted.

It certainly doesn't like things plugged into the USB port either.

de-badged, tint front windows, led interior lights, door sill protectors, led b/up lights, 5" factory step rails, yellow turn signal bulbs, added 4 D ring tie downs. Took off the black vinyl stripes between the doors. Changed the grill - from Custom Car Grills, Finally got a tonneau cover put on. 31" light bar ( white & amber ), tailgate light bar, sunvisor covers ( to hide warning labels ), new bedside decals - still too cold to put them on tho. Flag decals to go on too, again too cold still. Got a 2 switch, switch plate to replace that useless cubby hole to the left of the steering wheel.. still to be installed ( hopefully this weekend ). Upgraded the tires to G/Y Duratracs... loving them, no plowing the driveway !!
Wrong there... mine reboots & I do not have a cell phone, let alone having a cell phone paired with the truck, nothing. Just stock, and mine reboots & does the double talk. I am not in HD mode either. When I had my dealership look at the issue, they could not duplicate it... so told me to record it if I could.

I will go see the dealer see if they have an update here in Canada yet.

Has this happened to anyone who hasn't plugged their phone into the USB plug under the climate control? Seems like if you don't plug your phone into that, and stick to Bluetooth only, you'll be fine.

DITTO! Mine too, nothing plugged in with no "environmental issues" and screen just set for audio and it locks up. Registered more then one complaint with Toyota corporate boys and what do they do? Nothing! They just pass the buck off and say take it to the dealership service shop and what do you think the local dealer does? They can't fix what they can't find broken at the dealership shop and Toyota must think your telling them a story. Its totally pass the buck on this piece of sh*t entune head unit system and by the number of complaints I'm sure Toyota has now received they know it but don't want to spend a dime to do what is right. So goes life......

Im Bluetooth only. Also only happens in the rain and when connected with Bluetooth. I don't use the USB port. Seems to stop when I turn Bluetooth off on my phone.

Gonna add my experience to this. TRD OR 10k miles. It was doing it relatively often, and after reading this I did some testing of my own. I do think it is related to the USB. I had my iphone5s plugged into the USB port and Bluetooth on. it would do it at random as I drive to work (45min). Last week I didn't leave my phone plugged in to charge while I drive to work and it worked fine. This week I plugged my back up battery into the USB (15000 mah by Ravpower) and have my phone plugged into the battery.........radio worked just fine! I usually drive with the ECO app displayed, if that matters.

So my guess is that with phone plugged in to USB (connecting the phone data via USB), and bluetooth on, maybe its too much for the unit to handle.

Yeah, same thing happened to me. Had my iPhone connected via bluetooth and my iPad connected via USB (just to charge it) and it rebooted after about 4 minutes and stayed in a unusable state until I unplugged the iPad.

when I had a rental camry with entune it had the same problem. From what I found out it was because my USB stick. Supposedly it can only have so many files per folder and I was over that so the system kept rebooting trying to load.

Might not be the same case with tacoma though but just throwing it out there.
