I simply said to the lady on the phone that I knew people that had been experiencing the same symptoms I was, and they recommended I have my ATF checked. She gave me a case #, I called my dealership, and they got me in that Friday. They had the truck all day, and when I got it back they'd added half a quart and done the TSB even before it was a published TSB.

It was a very low stress call.

Hi....I am new but have enjoyed reading these posts....New 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport with tow package 4x2....mfg date is 7/2016 in Baja Mexico...I have same issues with searching for gears using cruise control and with slight changes of elevation.....after reading all of this, I called my selling dealer (Toyota San Diego) Talked to Service manager and he suggested I take it to my local dealer...I called them and will go tomorrow for ATF check.....will post results.

I also tried to call Toyota but they said it was after hours......I will call them tomorrow after the check and if low, I will respectfully demand platinum 7/125 warranty

This is a great site and is was great to see that I am not alone in this issue...My sales guy told me to use the ECT if shifting too much...I told him that was out of the question.....wanted it fixed...

Anyway thanks to all who posted....i have certainly have learned a lot

    OKU

Have them do the ECM reflash done at the same time, that fixes the underlying shift issues...

Well, today went to dealer and asked for them to check transmission fluid......service advisor stated that he has never seen one low.....I asked him to also check for TSB's......

When they finished whatever they were doing, he told me the fluid level was fine......I asked to speak with the tech and he said he was busy working on other cars......I asked how he keen if was ok and he said that the tech "scanned for fluid level"......I then asked why he did not pin the thermostat back and check.....Was told they don't do that.....

Then he said they reprogrammed the ECM (PCM) and they reset the AI so it would learn all over again.....Nowhere on the service order did it show they did the check or the scan....only that they reprogrammed the ECM......

I know somewhere on this site there must be pictures and instruction on how do do this myself..I am pretty good at wrenching......Can someone steer me in the right direction please.

    Thanks in advance.

BTW: i will be calling Toyota Corporate and opening a claim

I tried doing the procedure for the 2016 Tacoma automatic transmission fluid check by using a jumper wire. The A/T light never came on. I let it run for about 20 minutes. Any ideas out there.

Nothing fancy, yet. Weathertech mats front/back + their mud guards, some reflective striping and custom carpets on the storage bin lids underneath the jump seats.
By "A/T light", do you mean the D light in the gear selection display? If not, that's what comes on for all of two seconds and goes out again when you are getting it in temperature diagnostic mode by cycling between D&N in 1-1.5 second intervals. The D comes on to indicate it's ready when you've actually selected N. After 2 seconds, it goes out again. Shifting back to park, remove the wire, let it idle & wait. In 80F weather, the D came back on for me in about 4 minutes and I had time to add 3/4 quart of fluid and let it trickle to verify the level. It never started blinking to indicate it was too hot to check before I was done.

To piggyback on the previous post, once the D light goes out and while I was waiting for it to get up to temp, I put a drain pan under the tranny and removed the fill & check plugs and readied a fresh quart of WS and placed the pump hose in the fill port. When the D light finally came back on, I verified no tranny fluid was draining from the check port and began pumping WS into the fill port until it began draining out the check port. Put the check plug back in and verified the D light was not flashing and shut off the engine, then put the fill plug back in. From the time the D light illuminated indicating it was up to check temp, it took maybe 5 minutes to add the fluid and button it back up. Piece of cake.

I checked mine yesterday, did the procedure but I didn't know I needed to keep the engine running. I pulled the overflow plug and about 1.5 to 2 L came out. It didn't seem right that so much came out, so I dug around and saw that the engine had to be running while checking.
So I had to run to Toyota and pick up another 3 quarts to be safe. I knew about 2 came out so I put them back in then re-ran the procedure.
Once the temp came up I pulled the overflow plug and about 1L came out.(measured)
Now before I picked up my Taco I asked the dealer to check the fluid level, and they said it was just easier to just drain it and put the proper amount back in, so they just replaced it all. I wonder if they over filled it? If you look at the procedure you put in different amounts depending on the what you did to the tranny. Just wonder if they used the wrong procedure?

I just hope I didn't screw up. I didn't measure the amount that came out the first time, but it was more than 1L for sure.

OK.. More than a liter would come out cuz the motor is not running.. IE: the shit is circulating...!!
After re-reading what you said, I think you are fine..
Go get the TSB flash for the ECM and you will be very happy, I'm sure...

I got my TSB done today, but no more than 22kms home, so did not notice much difference...
Hey... How's the bed mat working for you..??

    Low by 1 quart.

Truck is made in Mexico. TRD Off-road package 4x2. Took a paint marker to U bolts also, to monitor if they loosen.

Thanks to gearcruncher for all the informative posts on procedures and the bulletins.

I got the re-flash. Initially it was better, ECT is definitely better. But once It relearned it self it kinda went back to the up-sifting to soon and running in to high of a gear crap. I think what most people are feeling is the self learning reset not really the TSB. The TSB doesn't really address these issues, this is just the way toyota made the truck, maximum MPG at the cost of drivability. I'll see how it feels this week, after I do my commute I'll know if there is a difference.
On the plus side the bed mat works great:thumbsup:

And if anyone want to check their fluid and is around the Alliston area, I got some extra fluid.

I tried to get the dealer to reflash the ECM per tsb but they would not. They told me a Toyota field rep must come out and verify the complaint before they can do the tsb. Has anyone run into this?

I've been sitting at the dealership for over 4 hours and somewhat pestering the technician and the service advisor showing them about pinning back the valve for the transmission cooler because I have the tow package, they are having none of it. Do not have that in the manual and they said any of that would be for changing out fluids not just checking the level. He told me it is checked while running and the fluid is running through the whole system so it didn't even make any sense. Hoping he is right because I've been waiting here half a day now waiting for the temperature to be down so he could check it.
