Today it was about 90 degrees outside. I got into my taco and turned the AC all the way up. I made a couple turns and then got onto the interstate. The recirculate light went off, the AC light started flashing and it started blowing hot air. I turned the AC all the way off and back on and it worked perfectly all the way home.
Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance.

It means your a.c. Pump wants to run, but can't. Usually it means high head pressure. You need service from a qualified a.c. Mechanic.

Note. Lots of 2nd gen Tacomas did not have a decent refrigerant right from the factory.

The reason it worked after you turned off the ac is because you cooled down the condensor while driving and the head pressure dropped. The compressor could start turning then.
