Did they do the manual process for checking, or just use techstream? The manual process takes a couple of hours because the transmission has to cool down and be warmed up to a specific temp range. If they didn't take a couple of hours, or keep it overnight they didn't really check it properly.

Yes it's probably the shift flare you're experiencing @bradwhitenikki has this issue I believe. He's been very vocal about trying to get it resolved. There are a handful of folks here reporting shift flare even after the software update TSB for the transmission. Mine seems to shift flare between 2nd and 3rd gear. only does it once and it's always in the first Drive of the morning

Most use the Techstream, but that method is NOT accurate, and the Aisin transmissions are very picky about tranny fluid levels.

I have this problem in my 2016 Trd off road. It is a valve body problem.

    And another thing.....(damn-it)

When I'm going downhill at about 40 mph and apply the brakes a little for a curve the transmission now wants to down shift to about 3rd gear every time instead...

I have to either select shift it back into a higher gear or hit the accelerator a little to get it back to the proper gear...

I want slow a bit and continue coasting, NOT gear down...Very annoying

    Edit: Another post TSB issue.

This may be an engine braking strategy. My Honda does this. I will try and see if mine does the same thing. I find it annoying as well.

What's a valve body problem? Is this like a cracked valve body? What material are these valves made out of? Just curious.. I work with larger valves in my day job sometime and curious about what kind of valves are used in a tranny.

The valve body is the hydraulic control system of the shifting in your transmission.

Check out these links for a primer.

With the valve body being a pressurized fluid control system, any leak down of pressure, causing improper actuation, or release, of the actuator and brake clutches, of the planetary and ring gears, is a functional failure.

I've had the same problems in my TRD OR. I had a shudder/slip feeling while accelerating into 4th and 5th gears. Doesn't happen in ECT as the rpm's are higher. So far I've heard that's it's valves in the tranny, torque converter shudder, or due to the rear gearing.

I took the negative off the battery for an hour or two in an attempt to reset the tranny learn mode. When I attached again I drove the truck much more aggressively than I typically do. Could be placebo but it seems to be shifting better and my MPG has gone up from 20.5 to 22.5.

For anyone having this flair problem, it is a very wise idea to call Toyota customer service (tel:800-331-4331) and let them open a case on your vehicle. This will protect you if your transmission fails in the future. Toyota is very well aware of the problem.

What makes you say they're aware? What dialogue have you had with Toyota officials that leads you to believe they're aware

One of the supervisors, at the customer experience center, told me. He didn't say what part of the transmission was the issue. He just said there were known transmission problems with the 2016 AC60X transmissions. It was a Toyota service man, and 2 other well respected transmission repair guys (one a Toyota employee, and the other is on this forum), that pointed to valve body leak down as the cause of the flairs like I am experiencing.
