Yea. I am heavily considering now... But I really need the bed.

I just drove 2 hours at 80-85 mph and hit 100 by mistake passing someone... This 4.0 roars. Sounds amazing, and really punches the throttle... And it only has 300 miles on it now... I think Toyota needs to put this enfkne in the taco ans I'll be happy... But a trd pro 4 runner... Or even a off road...

It's literally better in every way, even gas milage. I got 18.3 mpg on my trip above.

Just bought a 4Runner SR5 Premium, in Magnetic Gray Metallic. I'm going to drive to Beeville Texas and then to Louisiana from San Diego. Since I've had a stroke, I needed something reliable, and this fits the bill. This isn't the actual truck, as It has to be outfitted with with a left foot pedal accelerator. Maybe 5 days for this, and the It's mine. Way cool for me.

Interesting. I test drove a 4R when I got my 5k service. It felt like driving a slug in comparison to the taco. I didn't think you could have worse throttle response. Admittedly, I never bothered taking it out on the highway, but the highlander I drove after had way more pep and was a lot nicer to drive overall(looking to replace the wife's car).

There must have been something seriously wrong with that 4Runner. Our 4Runner feels like a rocket ship compared to my Tacoma there's a night and day difference.

I second that. It is so much of a difference, even my girlfriend noticed from the passenger seat.

My 3.5 is complete garbage compared to this engine. For the past 8 months I've been advocating for the 3.5 saying it's ok and not an issue.... I retract all of that now.

The 4runner even has a nicer interior, at a lower trim level...

I'm really torn on what to do

So, I found the problem with my truck!

Due to the sealants and paint protectants I put on it... It's hydrophobic!!

    It all makes sense now....

Still no news, the mechanics are off the next two days, and they didn't find anything Saturday.

For the record, I powerwashed my whole truck 2 days ago. Opened the hood, power washed everything in sight. Didnt let the spray hit anything eletronic for to long. But, yesterday mine had a hiccup getting on 680 when shifting in 3rd and 4th gear. Felt like a limp mode for a few seconds and then I shifted and it did it again...but then I got in to 5th and 6th gear and it was fine. Couldnt replicate the issue this morning. My only guess was I didnt let the truck warm up at all (I was in a hurry to not be late to work) and hammering on it as soon as I got to the highway was to much? Or maybe the tilt sensor was still freaking out from taking the on ramp to fast. I dunno.

Point being, sounds like lemon law might come in to play soon on your truck. Wrecking the wiring harness by going through a car wash is effing ridiculous. God forbid if it rained and you splashed through a puddle, total loss.. Although the first time since they ruled foul play on it, might not count

Yeah a car wash, even high pressure one should cause no issues. I have taken mine through one of those touchless washes almost every week. The one I go through blasts water at a higher pressure than I've seen any other one do in my area. Zero issues.

Thats exactly what I did lol. Popped the hood, pressure washed everything in the engine bay. Just made sure not to leave the spray on anything electronic for more than a passing spray. No problems here lol.

I guess from now on you'd better buy one of those misters people use to cool off on a hot day and wash your truck with that to be safe

I used to work at a dealership as a tech. Back in the day we used to troubleshoot, find your issue and make the repair. Now a days seems like as all techs do is change parts untill they get lucky and get the right part. Im calling a bad crank position sensor or wiring harness issue. When you left it at the dealership for that amount of time it gave everything a chance to dry out. There guessing game of fuel issues looks like it didnt work. Its a shame the days of troubleshooting and diag are gone.

Well, in their defense, nowadays there's so much electrical bullshit on these vehicles and codes don't always pop up or give a definitive answer, so alot of times it is a guessing game if there's no history of that issue before. Back in the day, yeah, it was all easy parts to change and you could figure out really quick what was going on. But at this point, yeah its pretty much bullshit that they are still trying to figure it all out

Iv'e been buried up to the frame twice. Once I had to leave the truck overnight. it practically sunk into a pond and got it pulled out the next day. I lose more and more confidence in toyota and the third gen every time I browse TW.

Are you saying the problem is that you got stuck? I'm not sure you can blame the truck there. If you are saying you are worried because you might have the problem that AFMurse has, then:

You get a pretty skewed data set at TW. I wouldn't let the obviously distorted apparent failure rate affect you that much, but each to their own.

I don't believe this has been documented as happening to any other trucks. It would be odd to loose faith due to a single event.

Now, I will admit that I tend to "lose more and more confidence" in people and humanity every time I read the news. That's why I cut way back.
