I have an '05 that was listed at time of purchase as 245 hp. From what I remember, about '07, '08 they went down to 236 hp. Actual power output didn't change, just the way hp is calculated (by whoever calculates it).

Also have to remember in 2005 Toyota recommended the use of 91 octane fuel and there is a 3hp/12ft lb increase in power using such fuel according to Toyota.

I believe they changed the way hp is actually calculated.

The figures I've always seen are:
    236HP/266TQ on Regular Octane
    239HP/278TQ on 91+ Octane

Has anyone ever put one on a dyno? I'd like to see real world put to the ground power from the 4.0

The EPA revised the way they measure HP about 10 years ago. The actual engine output did not change. But the revision resulted in a decrease on paper from 245hp to 236hp.

    Pickuptrucks.com got 198 HP, 222 TQ out of a 2012.
By contrast, the Canyon/Colorado makes around 231 HP, 203 TQ stock. So our old 4.0 makes more torque to the wheels than the 3.6 in the Colorado does.

Car manufacturers were required to start claiming their HP ratings with ALL accessories (a/c, ps, fan, alt) assembled.
