That's not even a special deal. You can get those for under 40.

Guess you didn't read all my previous post? I've owned every gen Tacoma fanboi. This one has more problems then most ESP the 1st generation which had none. I'll probably end up in a turd gen eventually. I'm just not in denial of problems that exist for others. Glad you have a unicorn though.

telling people the problems they are experiencing is "normal" or that tacomas are "bullet proof" and not to worry about it is not what I would call standing behind their product. More like standing behind a myth.

For me, I chose to wait for 2018 for the TSS. Its camera/radar for the front and assisted braking. Also .... I will save up money for all the mods. Rock sliders, seat covers, husky mats, amp/speakers. I dont want to buy the truck until I get all the mods bought first.

They are number two as rated, Lexus is number one. Google it, you won't believe me.

    Stock and loving it
It's still an inferior truck to the Tacoma.

Truck people are going to hate the 8 speed transmission. There is no way around that

I agree. New updates are always coming. such as the self driving trucks.

I have a prerunner 2014. I was going to wait for design in 2016, but I needed a new vehicle so I bought the 2014 in 2014. Now I need a 4x4.... so one year wait for something I think is important (to me) is good for me. At least Toyota is releasing it two years earlier then the other competitors.

If Toyota releases an option you really love and you have the money... Then treat yourself.

Toyota's brand is built on reliability. Introducing new engines and transmissions every few years isn't how you protect your brand. I hate that my T4R has a V6 with worse worse gas mileage than a Tahoe but I buy my vehicles based on reliability because it's the best way to lose the least money when purchasing a vehicle. I'll make back the extra 1-2 highway MPGs in a year based simply on the depreciation rate.

Spend several years driving a clapped out hooptie and you'll just enjoy driving something that is actually nice and has plenty of power.

Ford is famous for this. Ex. 2010 Mustang GT, complete redesign but still has the old 4.6 carried over from previous model. Then for 2011 they upgrade to the 5.0 and a 6spd. So why would they redesign the entire car but leave the old powertrain for just one year? They did this before in 95 too.

Toyota has never cared about leading the pack with specs. Toyota's niche is reliable, boring motors that last a long time. Redesigns are infrequent. Not sure why people expect huge things from Toyota. That being said, the 3.5 needs to be improved upon. TSB is a step in the right direction but may not be enough for a lot of people.
