Best tires for West Virginia?

So I just moved up to West Virginia for school and I'm from South Carolina. I'm looking for the best tires to put on my truck for when snow starts falling? I have simple all weather tires and i know it's not gonna do good with the snow up here.

 

Where are you at Morgantown or Huntington?

 

Blizzaks, Nokian,General Articmax,Cooper and Michilin all make great ice and snow tires.

 

Yup. Any winter tire from those names is better than any all season or snowflaked-up all terrain. That snowflake means SFA. If you want to run 1 set of tires year round Michelin ltx defender has very good compound and siping for traction in all road conditions. They're not as good at cold temps as a dedicated ice tire though.

Closer to Morgantown, i'm in Elkins

 

Oh yah you'll need a good set of Snow tires. If you living in Elkins. I've had good luck with my General AT2's. Go really well in the snow and you won't have to worry about mount summer tires then winter tires each year

 

I live near Elkins and have had good luck with cooper discoverers and Michelin ltx ms2.

Will be in Canaan Valley in the next few days! Might have to drive down to Elkins for hot dogs at Hiawatha's

 

I also run General AT2's. They have always done great in the snow.

 

I'd keep heading south till you hit Beverly and stop at bobbies for hotdogs and fresh pepperoni rolls

 

The pepperoni rolls are a must!!

 

If you want something for the whole year look for a tire with the snowflake symbol. The Yokohama g015, the bfg ko2's, or the Goodyear armor tires all have the snowflake severe snow rating. The yokos are 60,000 mile tires, not sure about the others.

 

The snowflake symbol doesn't rate ice traction. Winter snow and ice tires are far superior to KO2s, AT2 and Cooper AT3 on snow ice.

 

I'm in Pittsburgh, about an hour north of Morgantown. Bridgestone Blizzaks turn Honda Civics into mountain goats, so if you're looking for a dedicated snow tire, that's the way to go.

If you want to replace your current tires with something you can run all year, Goodyear Duratracs are awesome in the snow. I've had them on my Tacoma for two seasons. I make regular winter trips into the mountains in PA and WV to ski and camp. They have never let me down and are by far the best A/T I've run in the snow.

 

You didn't mention if you are 2wd or 4x4. If it's 2wd I don't think it really matters much.
