Brand of Motor Oil

I'm really not sure on that one, but I could ask the next time I am in the store. The store manager told me the secret about their oil being Mobil 1.

 

I use whatever Toyota Care uses. When that runs out, I usually use Castrol GTX for its cleaning properties (5K interval).

 

the dealer in Wichita the shop is not only dirty but I have heard stories about their work. In my past experience if a shop is dirty and unorganized then the help has no self pride and take no pride in the work they do. 9 times out of 10 they are the ones who try to rip you off. From the old school like to be sure what I pay for is done and done right . I mark the filter and check on things after it is done. Have seen people pay for air filters and not get it as well as other things. Still water Ok is rated way up there was taking truck down but really to much trouble 300 mi for oil change. I use Mobil 1 5w30 or Castrol Edge 5w30, whichever is less at Wally World, usually the M1 about 95% of the time. I only use Royal Purple oil filters (made by Champion Labs) same makers of M1 oil filters. Haven't had any issues in my Tacoma or the wife's Suburban.

Also the same makers of STP, AC Delco, and Supertech.

Look down inside the core. If it's a steel tube, it's the same as the M1 and K&N. If it's a black plastic "cage", it's an STP.

 

Well i came here just out of curiosity for the most used brand, seems Mobil 1 5w-30 is the winner. I've always used Pennzoil 10w-30 which leads to my question. My dad raised me on using 10w-30 and changing my oil every 3,000 miles despite the recommendation of 5w-30 and 5000 miles. I figured he stuck with 10w because we lived in hot Fl and never really drove any further north than SC. I'm in the same boat now and was just asking the dumb question of should I stick with 10w, and should I stick with ol pops teachings of 3,000 miles. It is quite annoying to keep resetting the maintenance light because it's off sequence of my actual maintenance. Thanks!

 

Oil, fuel, and vehicles have changed over the years. What was true in your father's day has also changed. 3000 miles changes are now a waste, biggest single reason is probably since we don't use leaded gas, plus advances in oil itself. Do yourself and the environment a favor 5w-30 at 5000 mile intervals.

 

Every six months, between 6-7K with Mobil One EP. Toyota filters for now then Fram Ultras.
