Long Travel BS Thread

Sorry if this is a real newb question but my previous kit had Delrin bushings so this is my first set of poly LCA bushings...

My poly UCA and LCA bushings have now gotten so loud that dogs chase me around the neighborhood because my truck sounds like an F-n squeeky toy. So, I'm sitting here in the garage with my suspension disassembled and fresh lube put on the outside surfaces of the bushing flanges...just reinstalled the LCA and even just moving it by hand it is squeeking really loud still...Is this just normal with poly bushings ? Is there some magic grease that kills or knocks down the noise ?

I used some Redline " red n tacky #2 " lube but I do have some poly graph CV grease too...try it ?

Edit - I have the LCA torqued to 100 which is the 2nd gen spec but it does appear to deform / squish the bushings a bit. If I losen the cam tabs it does kill the noise instantly...are you only supposed to " snug " poly bushings ?

I saw this. I might try it because I squeak like crazy too.

 

Probably not correct but I used a little wd40 and now have zero noise. It was insanely loud

 

Get Delrin bushings....

 

Whatever you use, should be using Lithium based grease and Moly will eat and deteriorate Poly.

Mine don't squeak using Lithium grease.

 

So what is the consensus on torque with poly bushings ? Tighten until you see them start to squish then back off a hair ?

 

The sleeves should Be as wide as the bushing so I would torque them to factory spec

 

Put on a bit of a show for some native Alaskans who had probably never seen a truck move that fast over that rough of a dirt road yesterday. Greeted with big smiles and thumbs up. We might have a few new members here in the coming weeks.

They sleeve is suppose to allow you to torque it

 

Hmmm ...I wonder if my sleeves are a hair short then ? If if tighten the LCA cams to 100 per OE spec the bushings look like they are very squished and will tear. The sleeves are def not flush with bushings, when I take apart the other side I will snap a pic to post.

I just removed and greased my UCA's too, I have double shear gussets so those bushings are sandwiched too...and same with them the bushings look like shit if I got to OE spec of 85

 

I thought about ordering some of that too, if it is the same stuff ES sends with their parts I've had some before and it is insanely thick and tacky

 

I had that in the back of my head which is why I used the Redline first

 

The only place you want grease is the inside of the bushing where the sleeve goes. DO NOT grease the bushing surface that touches the arm... The bushing to arm should be a dry fit. Torque to 105 per spec. They will squish. It may look bad if you are running extra caster and have your cam arm maxed out which will make the bushing sit cockeyed in the mount.

 

You know you can probably take some measurements and buy some Delrin replacements off mcmaster carr, or see if a guy on these forums has a lathe and can turn some out for ya..........

 

i second that i use the WD-40 brand white lithium grease and its works really well

 

Actually the installation instructions from Solo did say to grease the outside edge of the bushing that meets the truck and TC's instructions even say to " liberally " lube that outside surface too.

 

Yeah...I noticed a guy here on TW that lathed his own Delrin for a friggin fraction of the cost. I think the same dude recently learned how to TIG pretty damn good too...any ideas who that could be ?

 

Hmm well I didn't and mine don't squeak. The only thing that should move is the bushing around the sleeve not the bushing in the arm. Maybe I was told wrong?

Edit: this was before I got the DK LCA with delrin.

So... I've been searching for a good shop to deal with in upstate NY. Getting things ready to birth my taco into the LT world, but don't know of any decent shops up here to deal with that aren't 4-5 hours away. I am in the Watertown, NY area. Hoping someone might point me in the right direction.
