Yeah, pretty sure the Janome would handle everything just fine but it would be nice to have a more dedicated machine to handle the job. I want this to be enjoyable, not a chore ha.

Will do. Most things come in on Tuesday. Not sure when the fabric will show up but I am stoked to get going.

I'll be selling most projects to fund the next. Including the tents if I ever get there. I'll post on my build thread first but probably sell things locally to friends and such.

Started on a simple dachshund coat for the wiener dog today. It'll be the first project I'll finish.

Anyone know much about the Goodrich "b" sewing machine? I read on the history a bit but that only tells you so much. From the 1890s and It's in decent condition with the original desk/caddy. It still stitches but not sure the owners know much about it. They want $65 and I am half tempted to get it.

    That the hand operated one?

You wanting it for show or to use? If you're wanted a tough machine look at some of the Toyota's from the 60's.

I bought ine of the old Singer Tredle machine's that works for $35. They're a dime a dozen around here.

That's the machine. I really like the old machines for looks but I want a machine to handle the heavy stuff that can be kept out of the way. I can easily incorporate the cabinets in my room. My current machine sits in the living room on a dedicated space.

I still think you will be better off for the heavy stuff to get a Juki commercial machine.

Edit: I meant to say industrial machine. That will have the power and you'll be able to find parts easily.

I'll keep looking and saving. I have a bunch of small projects I am working through to get the basics down.

Starting on the weiner dog coat today :woot:. So far I have made a bunch of pull bags and stuff sacks.

Wait until you make a purse for someone. That will stress every nerve you have. Lol

I do the harder projects like that because you will be surprised at how many technique's you learn doing it. Make other thinks a piece of cake.

Turned out well. As most of your projects have. What was difficult about it? Wondering if I should get some cheap discount material and start practicing on it now...

Instructions are just kind of difficult to figure out sometimes. Most expect you to know things that if you haven't done them before you just don't know. Certain foods are confusing. That was out of a Amy Butler bags book. You use different kinds of stabilizer than I've used before. Don't forget to have an iron. That's a big thing with bags like that. It will make or break the project. I've sat and read things over and over and about 20 minutes later with out staring at parts it comes to you what they are talking about or you just try it and figure out what they mean.

My mom just picked up a working Singer 201-2 (we think) for $15 as a bday gift for me. What a steal.

They sent of video of them sewing with it. I think this will work just fine to get me working with thicker materials and larger projects. I probably won't pick it up until thanksgiving though.

Finished and got to give my new tarp a "dry" run before the weekend. Still trying to figure out the best way to rig it. It was a fun little several hour project. Had to sew a 12' seam to put the two halves together. Does what I need it to do, we'll see by trial an error if i need more tie down points or how to do it better, I just thought I could even put a spreader bar at the end.
