4.88's are in along with some fancy carbon brake pads. "Giddyup" and "whoa boy" performance is improved.

Are the pads noisy at all? Low dust?

The pads have a bit of a squeal to them when they get hot but it's not too bad. Intial bedding of the pads made A LOT of brake dust but that should settle down with a bit more use. The biggest plus for me is that stopping distances are shorter and they are much more resistant to brake fade. With the OEM pads I've been using I'd get brake fade pretty regularly at the speeds I do offroad. The Carbon pads should eliminate most of that.

Nice. I'm sure bedding in brakes on a big truck would be an interesting task. I've only done it on pervious performance cars but never something so big. The brakes on my Tacoma are terrible. I need to get some new pads...potentially rotors too depending on pad material.

Carbon pads and slotted rotors seem to be a sweet combo. My Cruiser is sooo much heavier than my old Tacoma so getting it to stop well is worth the effort. With my OEM pads I could stop the brakes and the truck would stop but never lock up the tires or even feel close to getting into the ABS. The new pads when I was bedding them didn't engage the ABS but all 4 tires were squealing which is a noticeable change as well as shorter stopping distance.

You must be referring to the triple diff locks, full-floating axles, coil suspension on all 4 corners, smooth highway ride and better reliability at 200,000 miles than a Jeep Wrangler with 2000 miles, right? I'm beginning to get obsessed with these heavy gas hogs.

Where did you get the pads? I couldn't find any decent ones last time I swapped mine. 80's are like trying to slow down a freight train. Especially fun with a trailer.

I got them from Darren McRae in Australia (Autocraft.aus on MUD). He's the one making the Slinky Long Travel suspension stuff that I got. I didn't have a lot of luck finding good ones here either but when I was testing with Darren during Cruise Moab we got talking about braking on the 80s and he said he had some they were having good luck with over there. I think you could have Justin at Redline Land Cruisers get you some when he gets his next batch of Slinky stuff from Darren.

Bought a 94 non-locked this weekend with only 94.5k on the odometer. Plans for Harrop e-lockers and an LS are in the works. Pretty stoked.

I'm pretty stoked. Looked for the 80 for two years. My wife is theoretically the owner...she started the process and I ran with it.

Right on! I think you'll love it. An LS swap would be a nice option for more power.

My truck has had a bit of hard use lately and needed a bit of cleanup. One of the things I wanted to address was a decent amount of rockrash on the wheels. In the process I decided to change the color and resprayed them last night. The color is a little different than I expected. I used Rustoleum "Stainless Steel" but it came out a bit more bronze than I expected. A few coats of color followed by a few coats of clear. Not aweful just different than what I expected. I'll see if it grows on me and either leave it or redo them at a later date in silver/gunmetal or go back to black.

I had wanted to ask you since I've seen you weld up your own sliders on both the Tacoma and LC...I'm going to be getting some sliders for my Tacoma. These are from 4XInnovations and will not come completed so I can adjust angle and height (well not me but someone will weld them locally). How far below your door when opened is the slider? I'd like to have something tucked up nice and tight but worry that I bang it while offroad and have it bend up so I cannot open my door. Is this something to worry about when welded properly and welded to the frame?

More importantly will be the gussets where the legs attach to the frame. The longer the gusset (length of the leg) the better for keeping the sliders from flexing into the body.

Here's the distance on the cruiser.

Have any interest in welding some up locally for some cash?
